I may or may not use Limewire. It's illegal, but who cares.

I use Ares for my illegal stuff (basically a Kazaa clone), and iTunes for the legal stuff. Napster sounds appealing though. I even open up Kazaa every once-in-a-while. There's no reason to avoid it, there's no spyware in clean kmd and if there were, there's no reason to be afraid of the jackasses that put it there.

Is there a burn fee for napster? Are the songs stored on your pc or on their server? Are the songs compatible with mp3 players other than ipods (I'm pretty sure my mp3 player only plays mp3's, not wavs or m4a's or w/e itunes uses)?

Is there anything I should know before starting an account with Napster? Is it as easy to get, keep, and burn songs from Napster as it is with other apps like Ares, Kazaa, and iTunes?

I'll look it up on my own a bit, but it's always nice to hear the opinion of a real person.

What kind of mp3s are you looking for? There's plenty on the web. You can get free ones through irate. If you want songs you'd get off a cd in a store, you're better off with a P2P app like DC++

Yeah, and one thing, you gotta share some of your own stuff to get on the hub

I have been using AllOfMp3 for nearly a year now and aside from a somewhat limited selection I couldn't be happier. You can pick what format and encoding you want to use (mp3,wma,ogg,flac,etc,etc) and it will encode from 384kbps Mp3 for $.01/MB or CDDA for $.02/MB. Plus there's no DRM at all.

Why not buy the CD's and rip mp3's from them afterwards? I mean, this way you're able to control the sound quality as you desire, you don't need to bother with stealth from the authorities, and you don't need to wait for search results to find the songs you want.

Look for CDex as far as mp3 ripping software goes. Good stuff.

Exact Audio Copy is the best software for ripping CDs, period.

Because a lot of good music can't be bought.
I managed to get one particular cd and only 120 more of those have been made.
And I have much more of such music that you can not find for sale anymore.
Besides, cd's cost a lot. Why don't they cost the same or cheaper than tapes?
The making cost of a cd is less than that of a tape.

Because CDs cost far too much (although I do buy albums which I really really like or can't find on allofmp3). Plus you can control the sound quality from allofmp3 like I said. I get all my music in q6 ogg vorbis and plan to re-buy my entire 7GB collection in FLAC when I have the money, then I'll have the exact same quality audio as would come on a CD.

Other than the relatively small library I mentioned in my other post, I honestly haven't come across a single negative of using AllOfMp3. (I really wish I could get some referal credits or something
