    Decent philosophical theme.

OK so the story was semi, the acting was semi, the movie as a whole was semi.

Quigon's whole idea was sacrifice everybody for the sake of ridding corruption.

The dumbest thing that ruins the movie however, are when Batman says to Quigon, "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you."
    1. That's a load of bull.
    2. That goes against the whole Batman storyline. I wonder why movies these days are so damn dumb. Every movie insists on killing the bad guy for no reason. Even in Spiderman, Uncle Ben's killer into the warehouse, and stands there when the killer trips and falls out of the window. That's so damn gay, it screws the entire movie from the ground up.

I guess it shows that revenge is a trait found in everyone, even super heroes.

Besides, bad guys need to be killed! There seems to be a constant supply of new enemies nowadays that if super heroes didn't kill them off we would be overrun with them

I just think it's a cool movie. I don't try to go into the philosophical fuckshit.

I think that people would complain if they didn't kill of the 'bad guy'. In the movie, they make it so that the audience hates the bad guy, he represents everything that is bad in the world, and the whole idea is that the good guy gets rid of the bad guy.

I like it better when there's a real moral dilemma, and there's uncertainty as to who's right and who's wrong. I think that line was the movie's biggest letdown. (Either that, or I just don't get it.) It still kicked ass otherwise.

You obviously have never read the comic books. This movie was more true to the storyline than any of the others have been. The others had the feel of a comic book, but this movie WAS the comic story. You get to understand why Bruce becomes Batman... not by conceit but out of ties. It sets up the next of the films perfectly, as now you understand why Gotham has gone mad. It explains why he is against killing, but that he will not save those who have no future in Gotham City and have attempted to harm it. Everything about the Batman storyline is Gotham, all the stories and characters. But the other films lost that in trying to have a "Comic Book" feel to them.

An authentic Batman is not really a hero, but an anti-hero who lives in a world of nihilism and madness with a gritty urban backdrop. The comic book Batman had no real "powers" other than his prowess, physicality, and wits. He was never a Boy Scout, or the "Good Guy". He didn't follow anyone's rules, and he didn't always play fair. His modus operandi was to live in the darkness and stalk people who put the fear in others, punish them, and then step back into the darkness. His quest for vengeance is replaced by a thin red line between good and evil. Between doing bad deeds under the shady veil of noble ideas. In the end, Batman does good despite his selfish and shady motivations. This is the way it was in the comics, and in the storyline. Anyone who believes the campy TV series or cartoon remakes displayed the "true" Batman is sadly mistaken.

Tim Burton's films of Batman were dark, brooding movies with unrealistic plots, story lines and characters. None of it seemed at all real. True to the "feel" of the comic books, but not true to the storyline. In the first few, Gotham seemed small, dirty but not seedy or mad. Batman Begins brings Gotham to life in a way none of the others were successful in doing. Batman's story is inexplicably tied to Gotham, which was never touched on before either. He was a superhero just trying to save individuals in a movie. Now, you get the idea what Batman's past, present and future are fed off of Gotham itself, which is important to the Batman original storyline. You also understand that the League of Shadows is an occidental cult of men that believe in their "rightness" and everyone elses wrong. It's not that Batman opposes the notion of destroying that which has become bad, but in the method of fear. That they would drive the city mad and let them destroy themselves. That is not justice, that is torture. And it was Gotham, the only tie between his parents and himself. Adding to the selfish notion of cherishing that piece.

Gary Oldman's "Gordon" was perfect in every way. Christian Bale made a great Bruce Wayne, but failed to carry the Batman character for me as his face lacked the chizelled resolve of a man with a purpose. Morgan Freeman was perfect, and Michael Caine was a good replacement, albeit a rather sad one for Alfred fans who miss the old guy. It's like replacing Q in the Bond movies... no matter how well played, it doesn't feel the same. And to Christian Bales credit, and good filmography, Batman becomes scary for the first time in any of the movies. A trait that was important in the comics.

And it's Batman, not Bat Mand. And that wasn't Quigon either, it's Henri Ducard minus the French accent. If you want to get real technical, It was the League of Assassins, not the League of Shadows portrayed in the movie. Not sure why they changed it, maybe to soften the purpose of the group. If you are going to bitch about how dumb a movie is, please don't start by acting dumb yourself.

The only dumbass that doesn’t know what the hell you’re talking about is you.
Your such an idiot it’s not even funny.

The movie is COMPLETELY off of the storyline. These are some of the major errors I noticed in the movie:

    1. The ENTIRE story of the movie from the beginning to end NEVER occurred WHATSOEVER in the comic book. Not even a portion of the movie occurred in the comic book. To say that the movie is an accurate representation of the comic book is absolutely impossible and brainless.

    2. In the movie Rachel Dawes is Bruce’s childhood friend that grows up to be the assistant district attorney. There is no Rachel Dawes in the book. There is a Rachel Green that is Bruce’s attorney. She is definitely NOT the assistant district attorney. Rachel Green never knew Bruce as a child, and is nothing more than Bruce’s attorney. There goes the female love interest right out of your entire bull crap oh so accurate movie.

    3. Bruce in a foreign prison practicing fighting criminals. Can this movie be any more retarded and false? This never happened in the book wither. What a surprise.

    4. In the movie, Quigon plays a character named, Ras Al Ghul. He disguises his secret identity by using the name Ducard, and having one of his subjects pretend to be Ras Al Ghul. Furthermore, they pronounce his name Raz instead of the proper Ra-Ish. This cannot be any more warped.

The name Ducard in the book belongs to a completely different character. Henri Ducard is one of the people that know Batman is Bruce Wayne. Henri Ducard has never been in the mountains, and has never done marital arts or sword fighting. Henri Ducard was one of Bruce’s early teachers. But he has nothing to do with the Himalayas. Ducard is a French detective that taught Bruce much of his detective skills and marksmanship skills. He has nothing to do with anybody in the movie. Ducard has no association whatsoever with Ras Al Ghul. They just used his name for no reason.

Like the French detective Ducard, Ras Al Ghul also knows that Batman is Bruce Wayne. Also like Ducard, Ras Al Ghul has never been to the Himalaya mountains, and knows nothing about sword fighting, martial arts, and such. Ras Al Ghul is the roughly 600-Year old leader of the League of Assassins. His intention is to save the world by killing the humans that plunder it.

There is no League of Shadows in the book. The movie also changed the name for no reason. Rahs Al Gul is the leader of the League of Assassins. Next time you try to act like an expert, get it right. The movie has portrayed a totally twisted version of these characters. This movie that you believe to be so accurate is only a totally loose and inaccurate interpretation of the Batman comic book.

    5. Young Bruce and his parents attended the classic movie, “The Mark of Zorro” that night they died. Not an opera like in the fake movie.

    6. Bruce, while he is still a child, meets James Gordon in the movie. More BULL CRAP that never happened.

    7. There was an entire section in the movie about how Joe Chill was arrested for murdering Bruce’s parents. Years later, he is released from prison. Meanwhile, Bruce grabs a gun, and decides to go kill him. Instead, some assassin girl gets to kill him first. Joe Chill is dead. This would be accurate, only Joe Chill never got caught and went to prison in the book. Nor did he ever die. Therefore, this ENTIRE bull crap section of the movie is total farce that never happened. There goes another part of your sacred plot totally out the window of accuracy.

    8. How about the whole encounter scene between Bruce and the mob boss, Carmine Falcone. I suppose you are reading some comic book from outer space if you think this actually happened as well.

    9. Then there was the encounter with the homeless man, and eventually Bruce’s parade around the world living life as a criminal to learn about criminals. Another huge load of garbage that never happened.

After the death of his parents, Thomas and Martha, Bruce was left in the care of his uncle. Bruce was raised by Philip Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth with help from the physician/social worker Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Bruce concentrated on developing his mind and body to be the ultimate crime fighter. He studied hard in school, and traveled around the world to learn from the masters in each academic field including marital arts and other relevant crime fighting studies. NOT LIVE LIFE AS A CRIMINAL TO LEARN ABOUT CRIMINALS. Thus far in the movie, there is barely any shred of accuracy.

In the book. He finished school, and travel the world.
Let’s see how much of the movie is accurate. No playing with Rachel as kids. No opera. No Joe Chill getting caught and doing time, and being released years later. No meeting James Gordon as a child. No situation whatsoever with Bruce trying to kill Joe Chill. No encounter with mob boss, Carmine Falcone. No homeless man. NO life as a criminal. No serving time in a foreign prison. No meeting with Ras Al Ghul in the Himalayas to study ninja skills and sword fighting. Wow pretty much this ENTIRE accurate movie of yours never happened.

    10. Nice movie. Batman gets upset that the bad guys want to kill everybody in Gotham. Killing is bad, therefore, he blows up the evil mountain base killing tons of humans in the process. CRAP!

    11. In the movie, the Scarecrow runs Arkham Asylum in which some criminals under Carmine Falcone are sanctioned to avoid prison by playing crazy. Scarecrow uses his real identity, Jonathan Crane to testify in court on behalf of these criminals. WRONG!

Jonathan Crane was a professor that got fired, has zero relationship with Carmine Falcone, has zero relationship with Ras Al Ghul, and does not use his real identity to testify for criminals. Furthermore, he does not ride around on a horse. This movie’s interpretation of Scarecrow is more off than anything. In the movie, he doesn’t even fight Batman once as Scarecrow. He’s going around doing all of his Scarecrow stuff during the day as Jonathan Crane which is a huge load of crap. The real Scarecrow never did anything during the day as Jonathan Crane. Nor did he ever fight Batman as Jonathan Crane. He always dresses up as Scarecrow. More garbage. There goes the entire sub plot of this fake movie out the window. SCARE CROW DOES NOT RUN ARKHAM ASYLUM!

    12. As far as I know, there was never any person running Wayne Enterprises other than Lucius Fox. Therefore, I am not 100% sure about his crooked CEO that was trying to take the company for himself according to the movie. In the movie, Lucius Fox introduces Bruce to all kinds of bat gear. He eventually confirms his suspicions that Bruce is Batman. Unfortunately Lucius is not supposed to know that Bruce is Batman. Moreover, Lucius had never been in the applied sciences department of the company designing all of Batman’s gear. He’s the CEO of the company. Nothing more.

    13. As usual, the morons of Hollywood have put Batman into some sort of rubber armor that barely allows him to turn his neck. You have to be really dumb to not know that this is definitely not what he wears in the book. In case you haven’t figured it out, all of the gear in the movie are COMPLETELY exaggerated false versions of any gear that the real Batman uses. And is that thing supposed to be the bat mobile? Real accurate.

    14. Then we see our pre-Batman ninja getting chased out of the window by Gordon. Need we ask whether or not this situation ever occurred in the book? I think it’s pretty obvious that the whole this never happened either.

Thus far, the movie has mad it seem like Bruce did not decide to become a crime fighter until after being depressed because somebody else killed Joe Chill, and Rachel chewed him out. According to the comic book, as soon as his parents died, he dedicated his life to fighting crime as a vigilante. Upon getting trashed after his first attempt as a vigilante, he came up with the while Batman approach. The movie is completely inaccurate again.

    15. There is a scene where Lucius explains Scarecrows drug to Bruce who does not understand what he is talking about. They have turned Batman into a total idiot in this movie. The real Batman would understand everything, and solve all the crimes as the greatest detective in the DC universe as well as a master in forensic science second to none. In the movie, not only take away his personality, they take away his intellectual abilities as well.

    16. We have this absolute sham story about how Ras Al Ghul created the great depression. And the even bigger sham that Thomas Wayne saved Gotham from the great depression. And I’m sure you believe as with everything else that this is part of the original comic book story.

    17. This brings us to the rest of the movie. And to our surprise not a single scene or piece of dialogue in the remainder of this joke of a portrayal EVER took place in the book. Wow so I guess you are saying that the fact that barely short of NOTHING in this movie is in anyway a reflection of the book means that this movie is real accurate.

    18. Last but not least is THE single worst part of the movie. Mutilating the story is expected because they do it in all Hollywood movies. But to complete screw the whole Batman character in one situation is truly demented. Of course I am talking about the scene that many fans agree was the worst scene in this sham of a movie. Instead of saving Quigon, Batman not only allows him to die, but adds the dumbest lines on top of it. “I’m not going to kill you, but I don’t have to save you.” What a complete joke. It leaves you wondering who this is because: THIS IS NOT BATMAN.

    And what have we here?
I have already explained that Batman is in no way the Punisher. He will save anybody’s life without hesitation whether victim or criminal. Your utterly off base stupididiotic rant about how accurate the movie is and about how Batman never had such a heroic character goes to show how brainless you are. Your assertion that an authentic Batman is not really a hero but an anti-hero, and that he does not save villains is a complete contradiction from the actual original storyline that Hollywood did not mutilate. But I guess you would consider a Hollywood mutilation to be the authentic, and not what was originally written by quality fiction writers.

Oh yes. Obviously I’m getting my information from outer space. And you actually know what you are talking about. I suppose you believe you are Elvis also.

Right. And you received this information from your fairy godmother.

What a total flipping load of crap. Are you even remotely aware of what a moron you are? Batman is not Punisher. His character was NEVER motivated by vengeance. He never had any intention of punishing anybody like Punisher. He wanted to save innocent people from the villains. He had pretty much the same values as Superman, Spiderman, and every other famous superhero. Fight crime by putting the villains behind bars without becoming villains. Be a hero, and save people. Even the bad guys.

If you actually think that Batman going around punishing villains out of vengeance is the way it is in the original comic book stories, you’re probably too illiterate to even read correctly. As if every person on the planet that been a fan of Batman comic books, and interpreted it the same way I have including the writers that wrote the stories are wrong. And your warped depiction is correct.

The stories in the previous Batman movies were complete shams as well. At least they never betrayed the personality that the comic book created. A personality that saves even the bad guy when in trouble. Unlike this Hollywood sham that has for no reason at all portrayed Batman as an individual that would just stand there claiming that he does not have to save Quigon. This cannot be any more COMPLETELY out of character. Furthermore, it is totally pointless in every respect. Why would not the writers simply have Batman save Quigon at the end of the movie in accordance with his morals in the book.

Your moronic portrayal in accordance with Hollywood’s mutilation of Batman’s personality has no basis in comic book reality. You even mutilate their interpretation even further as if there was some sort of selfish reasoning. Unlike your brainlessness, even Hollywood is perfectly aware along with the writer of the screenplay that Batman wants to save the city for one reason only. Because he wants to save people’s lives, and he is willing to risk his own life to save everybody in the city from being hurt. For no other reason than he does not want the people to be hurt.

Your entire argument does nothing but show that you are a total moron with no life that has no idea what you are talking about. You are so illiterate you cannot even read correctly, and think that Hollywood’s false portrayal is accurate.

Dude, keep in mind that Batman is a work of fiction. The story was made up to begin with (by an 18 year-old kid who thought it up over the weekend in an attempt to make as much money as the creators of superman), and has now been made up again.

There are many more worthwhile things to get angry about in the world, don't waste your energy on minor differences in the cult-classic Batman and the mainstream Batman.

Last week a woman was nearly beaten to death by her husband, just down the street from me.
Put your ample ability to rant, along with your even more ample ability to track detailed information and contrast it in an effective way, into stopping real-world problems like domestic violence, rape, assault, murder, anger, hatered, etc.

Definitely better than "The Fantastic Four".(7 out of 10)
This is the first Batman Movie I have actually respected.
    It was not perfect.
Perhaps because I was expecting to be let down once again from another batman movie that I liked it so much.
    I liked it.

How do I know I liked it......Cant wait for the next one.

Yah I know...Should have let this thread die.

Understatement. It was a complete defecation all over everything Batman stands for.

The story was as dumb as the rest of them. The microwave blaster that is supposed to evaporate water. All the water in the city streets evaporated, but somehow the water in all those people's bodies were fine. And a microwave? How stupid would the audience have to be to buy this nonsense. But of course, it is just fiction, and we can overlook the aburdity of this movie, and all the previous ones. What cannot be overlooked however is how this movie defiled everything Batman stood for.

Who cares? Some idiot claims a total sham of the movie is in anyway true to the original. A movie that COMPLETELY defiles EVERYTHNG Batman has ever stood for in that single scene when he kills Quigon for no reason. Of all the numerous incongruencies, that single point completely conradicts everything Batman has ever stood for. And here some idiot claims that this is how Batman is supposed to be, and that the previous movies and shows depicted him wrong.

Sure enough, the previous movies and shows were very incongruent, but they stuck to the theme of what Batman stands for. That moron claims that this movie sticks to what Batman stands for and the other movies and shows do not. How stupid as hell can somebody be?

    Incorrect.

He did not kill anyone. He simply chose not to expend his energy risking his own neck to save Quigon.

    Without vengeance I am nothing.

I shall let it consume me. My anger is greater than I have seen. It
cannot be cured for I am beyond wounded and my blood has run its last
    ounce. It cannot be sealed.

    -Bruce Wayne, in adolesence.

As a man, I'm flesh and blood, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol, I
can be everlasting, I can be incorruptible.

    -Bruce Wayne, early adulthood.

Batman Begins is the biography of a character created in 1939 by the
brilliant comic book writer Bob Kane. It reiterates the comic book
origins in big screen hollywood format. With many months of working and
planning for more than three years before release, Batman Begins is a
triumph of Hollywood cinema and a tribute to one of two of titans of the
comic book universe along with Superman. (See "Superheroes and
    Philosophy for an intellectual perspective.)

The movie is nearly dead accurate from Ra's Al Ghul, one of Bruce
Wayne's later mentors to Wayne Enterprises and his means of acquiring
    all "those wonderful toys".

It's no different. Whether it is different or not anyway, it is completely against Batman's character. And even moreso to say someting like "I do not have to save you." That goes against everything Batman is in Batman's history. As I stated, Batman would have saved his life if they were sticking with the proper story. You're incorrect.

The movie is TOTALLY inaccurate especially in the sense that it does not support everything Batman originally stood for. In fact, not only does the movie storyline contradict the original Batman story line, it contradicts the whole theme of what Batman is in one scene for no reason.
