In Europe is the VLT (Very Large Telescope) observatory that is even better than space telescope Hubble. What do you think.

(I'm not sure have you already talked about this subject because it's pretty old but I thought that this could be very interesting).

There are still some things for which the Hubble is uniquely suited. For example, taking deep-field shots of extremely faint sources that are difficult to see behind the atmosphere.

But yes, these days there are a number of terrestrial telescopes that approach and sometimes exceed the Hubble in all sorts of areas.

I know about the VLT at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. It was my understanding that the combined area of these four 8-m telescopes, in combination with adaptive optics (deforming the mirrors to overcome the distorting effects of the Earth's atmosphere) made them the most sensitive optical observatory in the world.

I did not know that Europe had one also. Where is it located? Any web sites?

    Peace.

Yes I fogot to mention those four telescopes.

I don't know any web sites of this subject because I read it long time ago from Tieteen kuvalehti. I can't translate it accurately but in english it could Science in pictures or something.

And sorry for the mistake. It truly is in chile, but it's made by European countries.
