is the concept of an end self defeating?

At some point something is going to have to be self defeating, it is insistence on preservation of the "I" that makes death necessary and fearful to most.

Our consciousness is like drops of water in an ocean. What if each of those insisted on maintaining its own individuality and boundaries? How would the ocean itself behave then?

i agree, i think that once the brain is dead, one no longer has any type of knowledge of their existance, and that the brain is what holds all of our thoughts and knowledge while the "soul/self awareness" is seperate from these things. but i think that because it is possible for my awareness to be impossibly created, of course my opinion (i think all of us are miracles), then why could this exact thing not happen again. ive already concluded that it happened once, hence i am aware of my surroundings, so i would think that the chances of it happening again are pretty good.

I tend to think of "life" (?) after death as the same as "life" before birth. Think back to one year before you were born.... that's what it will be like one year after you die.

Your first post is right on the mark. Our consciousness that we have now will never be repeated as 'we' know it.

I don't remember much up until about the age of 3 and I damn well know I'm not gonna care much about anything once I'm buried. Although I do hope I'm buried next to some old tree that gets some nourishment from my decomposing body.

Lets just enjoy who we are now.

Cheers.
Teri
