Spidergoat, you sure don't pay much attention to US politics, do you? Somehow, you feel that the President has enormous powers, and that's just not true! The congress is where all the politics takes place, where all of the bills are approved or disapproved, where funds for the NO levees were approved several years ago. Where they voted to go to war with Iraq. Name one thing that President Bush has done without the approval of congress!! Please, I'm waiting patiently. I'm sure that there are things, I just don't know what they are ....perhaps naming the presidential dog?? Baron Max
He encouraged Gonzales to write memos that approve torture, he did not, as promised, fired the person who outed Valerie Plame, he directed the cherry-picking of intelligence to misdirect the congress with regard to Iraq, he intervened with Terry Shiavo, he hired the thug John Bolton for the UN, he hired someone with no relevant experience to head FEMA, and those are just the things off the top of my head.
Can you prove any of those allegations/accusations? If not, then you're only mouthing slander and mis-information. Nothing has been proven about the Gonzales memos or torture. Nothing has been proven about the Plame ousting. The congress approved any and all appointments to intelligence dept. President Bush did NOT intervene in the Shiavo case. John Bolton was appointed and the congress REFUSED to block it when they had the chance ....me thinks they did it on purpose! What else, Spider? Baron Max
Baron, What are you talking about? Bolton got his job by way of a recess appointment. What are you referring to regarding Congress refusing to block him? I'm not touching the rest of it for now. As far as the presidential speech, it's simply going to be full of empty platitudes, rhetoric about figuring out where the failure was, precventing such failures in the future... blah blah blah. Typical political tripe. Who cares?
Nothing has been proven about the Gonzales memos or torture, except that the Attorney general commissioned memos approving torture and rape for the president, and such tactics were later used in prisons in Iraq. But hey, that could mean anything, right? Nothing has been proven about the Plame outing... except that Karl Rove knowingly revealed Valery Plame's identity as an under cover CIA agent to a reporter. But.. that could mean anything, right? Congress approved all appointments to the intelligence dept, but they never approved Bolton for his spot at the UN. Intelligence, diplomacy its all the same thing I'm sure. President Bush signed Terry's Law, which was a law pertaining only to Terry Schaivo and the status of her feeding tube. Congress wrote the law, but I hardly think that earns points for you because the Congress is republican as well, so its merely making more of your ideological allies complicit in that farce. As for your last assertion, watch this now its clever, congress REFUSED to approve Bolton. See how I do that? I make my point more valid by typing an outrageous word in all capital letters. Surely that puts more weight behind my words.
President Bush and his people even told the congress that a recess appointment was looming ......and congress still refused to vote on Bolton. They knew damned well that Bolton would be appointed, yet they refused to act against. Now what do you call that?????? Baron Max
I call it the same thing that SpyMoose calls it. Congress refused to approve him. The Dems didn't have the votes in a Republican dominated Congress to block him with a simple majority, so they refused to vote as a manner of stalling while attempting to drum up support or some kind of deal to block him. In the meantime, Bush slid him in with a recess appointment. Yes, it was LEGAL, but hardly ethical, since recess appointments were designed to be used in a case of dire emergency such as the US being attacked and the President having to appoint a new Head of State before Congree returns as opposed to an under-handed tactic to avoid the dogfight to get your guy in and get your way.
