I am interested in the arguments on why carbon is the most likely element as the basis for extraterrestrial life. I am familiar with the popular arguments (e.g. carbon's abundance, valence etc.) but I would like to read some published references. Would anyone on this forum be able to point me in the right direction? Thank you.

P.S. I am more than willing to share my thoughts and theories on the subject of the existence of extraterrestrial life, but I am hesitant to bore forum members unsolicited.

    Best, Paul
