I have to agree that Discovery & TLC have been running too Much psudo science shows, and have been repeating shows for the last 2-3 years.

But I have to admit I enjoyed those shows the first time I saw them. I really liked the Nova on searching for the LNess. Mostly because I have vowed that If I ever win the Lotto (Or if I could get the fundning) I will buy a nice little cottage on the Loch and spend time looking for this "Monster". But it was a good show..

Anywho I think the main problem with these Science shows are ratings .. the UFO Invasion Week (?) on TLC (?) was one of their highest ratings grab since the network started.. they have learned Sex and UFO's get ratings...
    Oh well..

The playful hand of capitalism has done it again. Oh well, I guess it's back to PBS

As a matter of fact Boris, PBS had a special NOVA thing tonight about man's trips to the moon! It was really good and I enjoyed it very much! I wasn't aware that PBS was capable of that!

If everyone would stop watching the puesdo-shit they air on Discovery and Learning channel, put our ratings into the space shows on PBS, then maybe someone out there will get a clue as to what we are really looking for!

But wait a minute! I guess everyone wants to see a UFO documentary that explains "THE REAL TRUTH BEHIND UFOS!" we've already seen 101 times and still learned nothing from.

    MaTTo

P.S. -- I'd like to see the rating stats on how many viewers "Interior Motives" (or any shows like that) gets a day.

    Just asking out of interest...

What are your non-cable/satellite channels like when it comes to scientific documentaries and the like?

I am based in the UK, most of you seem to be in the USA. Please don't be offended by this but...we do get the impression over here that US TV is all commercialism and banality. I honestly am not trying to cause offense, just pointing out the fact that this is the impression we are given over here.

On English TV we have several serious scientific dcoumentary series which are very popular here. My favourite was a one-off three part series called, 'Reality on the Rocks'. The idea behind the programme was that the presenter, a comedian/scifi author (whose name I forget) had tried to read 'A Brief History of Time' and had got stuck near the beginning, so he went out and met with the world's top scientists, David Deutsch, Steven Hawking, etc. and tried to understand the book by visiting the top research laboratories (Cerne for example) and talking to and asking questions of these brilliant scientists. They still had to keep it interesting for the layman and so between the serious discussion there were segments where the presenter performed a lighthearted stand-up show discussing what these 'mad scientists' had been telling him. Sounds a bit weird but it was a fantastic programme and I think you would all enjoy it if you get the chance to see it.

Again, please don't be offended by this post. I know that USTV can't all be 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and bogus programs about UFO Abductions - I'd just like to hear it from someone who knows for sure

So what kind of serious programming do you receive and which shows should I look out for?

    Seriously seeking worthwhile TV,
