i heard an interview with Orson Scott Card awhile back. he said that an "Ender's Game" movie was in the works, but that the production of the Battle School war games would take an insane amount of money to produce. i mean the price he was talking about would make shooting in orbit an option. i wish more people were into it to make this a reality. we need more real, substantive sci fi movies. we are such a visual culture, that a movie like this could really take off... or flop.
Dunno what ender's game is but wouldn't Zone of the Enders make a great sci-fi movie or sci-amime loads of sh*t blowing up all the time. But maybe the problem is that all the people who'd be making great sci-fi movies are making sci-fi computergames.
esoterik, I agree that there are too few decent SF movies around. Ender's Game could be an awesome film, or they could wreck it - the ending would have to be played very carefully. Anyway, I had a quick look, and IMdB are claiming release sometime in 2007, although the official site doesn't mention a release date: http://www.frescopictures.com/movies/ender/index.html
I think they would ruin it if they made it a movie...a lot of it is ender's personal feelings, and his views on things...they would either totally disregard that part of it, and just make it into one of those fun little movies, or screw it up, and make it cheesy. If they could pull it off, that would deffinately be cool though.
they'd need a group of really good child actors, firstly. i think the end could be done well (the "group practice sessions") if they paced it pretty quickly, and cut between scenes of the kids, the adults watching, and short snatches of the actual commands being carried out. i think they'd do best to leave the very end for a possible sequel. but then of course you have a lot of material to deal with after that... hell, i say brainwash Bill Gates and have him finance the whole Ender series. and then there's Bean...
im all for enders game, the movie as long as they stop making them right at the point where ender settles down and becomes a farmer (cant remember which book) talk about boring..
I think that was the end of the second one. I didn't read after that, someone told me the rest were not very good...
i heard that they are putting enders game and enders shadow into one move, if they do ti better be a 5 hour movie, you know what i am saying? and i email them asking them for a release date and if i could be a battle schhol student ( i even spell cheaked my spellnig nad my mom pre read it, i never ogt a email back though, orson scott cards websight www.hatrack.com has a link to the movie place also, along with tips and a bargen bookstore of his works, if anyone is interested,
Any major bookstore is almost sure to have at least one copy floating around. Though, for some reason, I've noticed that there is almost always at least one book of the series missing in most stores.
Ender's Game would be a good movie, I think. How many screenplays have been made for it already, though? I saw OSC a year or so ago and he sounded optimistic about it. But he needs a producer.
hmmm, i owuld lvoe ot meet OSC i am now reading his home commnig seris ( i saw xenocide but got a hoemcommnig book by ihm instead) and have you read speaker of the dead that boo kis kick ass. enders game seris is what amde my interested in phylosphy, if only slighty.......
