Nelson: You are half-correct - Usama bin Ladin wants power.

But, he is not content with material power. He wants supernatural power, to be with God, to be aligned with Allah.

Nelson, your attempts to protect religion from this criticism are good - they show that you have, in the trite phrase "A good heart". But they are, unfortunatly, not true. Yes, religion has been perverted to seek power - but it has been perverted willingly.

    Cris:

Ah, 'Materialism' the philosophy versus 'materialism' the state. I get that a lot.

Materialism, Nelson, is a simple concept. It is just the belief that everything is, well, material. There is no supernatural, and no afterlife. Thought is caused by interactions in the brain, as is emotion. There is no 'soul' in the conventional sense.

Hitler did not kill discriminately, he killed to acheive his own selfish purpose, so he killed anybody who he thought got in his way, pretty much like any murderer.

There is no such thing as killing in the name of atheism because nobody does it. Nobody goes out and says 'I'm going to fight for NO god!' and does it to defend their atheistic views.

    Hitler did not kill discriminatly?

Woh boy. You need to read your history.

Your comments pretty much suggest that Hitler was nothing more than a power-hungry egotist. The fact was, Hitler hated everything that stood in the way of German culture and peoples. Hitler had a firm belief that everyone not German was of a lesser people and therefore, if in Germany, a virus to the superior peoples. He also linked Jews (whom he hated as destroyers of German culture) to Communists (or Bolsheviks - whom he felt were also destroyers of German culture <which they were, as they would have gotten rid of culture period> and destroyed freedom). If you ask me, singling out certain types of people and making them less-than-human is pretty damn discriminatory.

why SOME of u persist on the lack or respect towards one another's opinionated views is beyond me. i would think that such enlightened and extremely itelegent people would at this point in their lives finaly realize this particular humanistic flaw. i see this constantly in all threads where some people are continualy lashing out in unappropriate forms of debate. there can be respectable critisism which can lead to better discussions unlike the latter.

I've had very few interactions with Jan Ardeena on this board so far, but if any of my posts have been offensive I apologise. It was not my intention.

You are most probably correct, but it was all due to his ignorance.

    someone else finerly said it

ALL wars are caused by ignorance (and greed)

Im reminded of yoda at this point
    Gorge Lucas was so right

Religon may be the tool of choice but it is not the cause

even though yoda is a puppet and Star Wars is science fiction, that saying i find to be so true. it's a great statement and makes alot of sense.

Thank you, thank you all ...

Having recently posted two what I considered to be inflamitory statements
and elicited no response to speak of, a simple statement that included
'fear of retribution in an after life' kicked things off. Great!

    Xev
Read again Cris's words: "... evolve through science and technology
into religious and spiritually free enlightened beings" Are my eyes that bad
that I see 'religious' rather than 'non-religious'? Dear, though silly, one:
Yes! Athiests in their beliefs are as blind as 'believers' in the conventional
sense IMHO ex. The USSR. I prefer to consider myself a non-believer, and
therefore follow the most difficult path of all: That of a 'Seeker'.

    Cris
My you're getting irritable in your advancing years (you've never called
me, or anyone else, if memory serves me correctly, a 'dummy'). When you
make a statement like: "Why would anyone who understands that death
is an end to existence want to risk ending their lives?" I have to believe
that you are even more removed from life than I realized. Does 'for another'
or 'because what I'm doing is fun' or 'because it hasn't been done before' ring
a bell? I really do think you've gone over to the other side: Enjoy you dreams
    of a silicone existence.

As for adding #16 - too late, I already did. Regardless, yours is too juvenile,
something I'd expect to hear from a beauty contestant trying to say some-
thing deep and meaningful. Most amusing of all is your use of my words to
support both sides of your 'argument' (ex. your reply to TruthSeeker).

But, I do agree with you in part: IMO, Osama is religiously motivated.

    Jan Ardena
Seeing your 'name' puzzled me since, considering your numerous posts, I
had not run across your childish prattle before. A quick 'search' revealed
why: I generally don't frequent the Religious forum.

    Aware
Did it ever occur to you that bothering to reply to a read post indicates a
certain degree of respect for the author, even if it is couched in a somewhat
derragatory manner? I personally feel that it is insulting to ignore another's
thought or expression of belief ... particularly if in total disagreement.

    Take care all

"He was ignorant, so he and his cronies made irrational judgements. He may have chosen who he was going to kill and therefore discriminated from that percpective, but it was according to his or his cronies whims, not according to any law. His whole campaign was based on ignorance, therefore, atheistic according to shastra. But he didn’t commit his crimes in the name of atheism, his act was an atheistic act, because it was contrary to Gods law."

    How was Hitler ignorant?
Hitler was a man who had lived among the poor of Germany and Austria for years. Hitler was a man who had fought in the war. Hitler was a man who had experienced every political party in Germany.

    What was Hitler ignorant too?
He knew political theory. He knew the people very well. He knew how to be persuasive. He knew German culture.

The only thing I'd actually say Hitler was ignorant to was military. Hitler didn't know the first thing about good war tactics.

Hitler did not kill according to whims at all. He killed after theories he devised following years of both turmoil and thought. His killings were not done in ignorance, but in total thought that these people (commies/jews/gypsies) were destroying German culture and needed to be disposed of. Everyone else was fine with him.

And no, I know he didn't commit his crimes in the name of atheism! I never said that!

    Xev,

For the ideas that I see in Religion, I prefer to follow them. The central idea of all Religions is Love. And Love is the central idea of my Life. Then, I align Religion with my Life pretty easily...

History showed us that we have no Wisdom to understand Religion... and still do...

    Cris believes the media?
    Oh yeah...
Cause the media is always telling us how love is nothing more than chemical reactions and never tries to glorify love..........????

    Are you an idiot???

Cris' feelings are pretty anti-media if yo uask me.

Hahahahhaa. Here's where you become the stupidest human being on earth:

"- I believe the government? You must be joking.

    - So why do you defend it...?"

Hahahhahahaha. Are you saying the government does nothing good? That's the only way your sentance makes ANY sense!!!!

Let me put it to you this way. Subject 'X' does some bad things and some good things. Subject 'X' also tries to convince the people that it is doing good (as EVERYTHING on the planet does. can you find me one company/government/organization that goes out and does somethings besides trying to convey a good image?). Many of what Subject 'X' says are lies. But other things are good and true. If you try and say that some of the things I feel Subject 'X' does are good are bad, I would defend Subject 'X' on that issue.

How in the lord's name does this mean I believe everything Subject 'X' is telling me?

That's such a dumb comment I feel like asking you if you actually are 18 and didn't put that 1 there by mistake.

"About Osama... again... you are believing in the media. All this "War on Terrorism" is only to get oil in the Middle East, as usual... It's all abot power and money... how many times do I have to say that...?"

    ????

    Care to explain?????

I mean, it's not like America has benefited oil-wise from the war??? In fact, as I heard, Sadam put a 30-day freeze on oil (yes, not a big hurt, but a bit)????

And you have to say it until you give some reasoning for it.

My god, this whole War on Terrorism is just a war for the land.

    - See. I can say it. But you won't believe me just because I say it in a condescending way. Will you?
