    May I summarise your view?

Palestinian kills Israeli civilian = terrorism

Israeli kills Palestinian civilian = self-defence

Seems to me to be a double standard. Violence is to be condoned if carried out by an oppressor, but castigated if carried out by the oppressed. The victim becomes the criminal in your world. It's like a mugger saying he grabbed someone's watch and was forced to suffer a series of vicious head-butts to his fist as a consequence.

Okay, we have a difference in perspective. That's agreed, but how do you get away from your original statement? That to come under attack means you will naturally strike back? Do you not see what Israel is doing now as an 'attack'? Are we to redefine the English language?

In fact, I think I might take over your home and make you my servant - I won't be expecting any resistence, for that would be wrong. Of course you might have to suffer an occasional beating should things fail to go my way... but that's not provocation, is it? No, Sit back and watch me enjoy your home, just don't provoke me, you wouldn't like it if I got mad...

Rather less prosaically (and more seriously) I can't understand how you're shift in perspective makes black = white and white = black. I mean, what if that biker gang in your original argument had been provoked? Does that change things? Should you sit back and take the beating?

I thought your original argument was that any violence against you justifies a violent response. Now we have 'provocation' entering the fray. And what is the definition of terrorism to you?

    A confused Captain

    Captain Canada ...

If I may, I would like to offer a slightly different equation:

Palestinian kills Israeli civilian = Unconventional warfare

Israeli kills Palestinian civilian = Collateral damage

In both cases, civilians die. So, what's new?

What's so particularly despicable one way or the other?

Unless, that is, you want to inflame further the already inflamed
    emotions of the combatants.

    Take care

No, Captain Canada, you may not summarise my view... you dont understand it.

"I thought your original argument was that any violence against you justifies a violent response. Now we have 'provocation' entering the fray. "

Well duh... violence against me IS provocation. Your point is...?

I see no further point in carrying on this particular conversation. Your view is yours, mine is mine, and you insist on bending my view to fit in with yours. Pointless argument.
