Jill Bolte Taylor's powerful stroke of insight

She was a direct eyewitness to the symptoms she experienced, with the realization of the actual physical causes as they occurred. Odd how the same type of testimony from afterlife believers during NDEs of visions of heaven and dead relatives are held to high esteem as reality, but a scientist...

Was Judas Jesus’ hero and most trusted disciple?

Also depends on if you agree with the Catholic Church who threw out the Gospel of Judas as non-canon. It paints a much different picture, with Judas as the one Jesus was the closest to, and he wasn't a traitor so much as the one entrusted in doing what it took to make the prophecy happen.

    If Jesus would not rise

Since Christianity has had such a huge impact on the Western world for thousands of years, this is difficult to say. If it's true what's been said so far, that without its influences both Judaism and Islam wouldn't have spread or gotten developed, then something else would have taken the place...

    If Jesus would not rise

I can see your point. That's one of the problems and the fun part of alternate history, trying to see where things are dependent on others.

    If Jesus would not rise

I think he probably meant it as that, assumption of the event as actual. Of course I disagree with that notion, but for discussion's sake I broadened mine as a more what if on the story and its historical significance.

    If Jesus would not rise

A historical point of view probably isn't the intent of this subject, but certainly with no Christianity in place, a lot of major events would not have happened that shaped our modern world. Obvious ones are the Roman Empire and what religion it used in place. And the Crusades of course would...

Atheists & Christians: Argue the OTHER POINT OF VIEW

Does one have to be religious to be spiritual? I would probably agree that non-religious brains tend to work a bit differently than religious ones, but I don't think spiritual is the best word to use, as it's probably too broad in this context.

    If Jesus would not rise

You are correct, he didn't go to Hell, but to Hades, which is like a temporary holding for souls before judgment. Which makes my point even more, wouldn't my scenario be more suffering than what's written?

    If Jesus would not rise

He wouldn't have fit into the prophesy, so the writers had to make him come back. Although they disagreed on the details. I think it would have been more dramatic for him not to have risen actually. How can suffering for all the sins of mankind be done in less than three days? Would have been a...

10 upcoming Sci Fi movies to watch for

A few interesting ones, at least from the initial descriptions. The Prototype could be one to watch, although I swear I've seen the footage before. Has a trailer been shown earlier? Maybe some of the stuff from I, Robot is making me think I've seen it before, as there are a few parallels.

Atheists & Christians: Argue the OTHER POINT OF VIEW

He's not asking you to change your position, only to try and form arguments from the other side. It's a common debate tactic. I'll come back to this thread once I come up with something other than the usual canned responses of circular argument or disbelief. Spidergoat's reply is pretty good...

The memories of near death experiences: More real than reality?

I wonder if given the situation that the brain is in during traumas that would cause NDEs, maybe what is happening is that the brain is connecting a lot more significance to the thoughts it has created. Sort of like grasping onto it as it either crashes or comes back. Because of that...

    The Bible and Laws

I guess you're attacking my last point, about the causes that drove the colonies to revolution. I'll admit I don't know everything, but I've read enough about the American Revolution to know that that, just like so many struggles in history, there was not a single cause, but a long and continued...

    The Bible and Laws

Also I think this got bypassed in the number of topics. A short but interesting question, anyone care to try and point out one?

    The Bible and Laws

You claimed there was one, so where did you find it?

    The Bible and Laws

I can't find an English version out of 40 that are online that doesn't say witch, sorceress, or woman who practices magic. Reference? I would point out that some of those are more modern translations from older texts that are considered more accurate than the KJV.

    The Bible and Laws

No, they didn't. Look up basic info on religion in those civilizations and how intertwined in politics they were. No, that was a conflict within the Church itself. Again, look up the facts. Here you are correct. The idea of an actual separation was a new idea, thus my earlier point of it...

    The Bible and Laws

Isn't the idea of a secular government pretty recent? So you're saying that religion had no part in religious inspired violence throughout history? Really?

    The Bible and Laws

As a guidance manual it isn't written very well. Some of the stories might have been useful as guidelines or lessons when they were originally conceived. Anyone that's claiming they live by the OT verbatim in the modern world either is just saying that to avoid confronting their faith, or they...

تقرير مركز وذكر عن عيد الأم

I think that goes hand in hand with the whole AI and learning ability question. As you can see if you use the various techniques to translate the first post, it's okay to get the general point that was being made, but hardly a great translation. Each language has complex characteristics about it...
