The fact that Computer Science majors are 40% and Mathematics majors are 83% gives evidence that it has nothing to do with "geekiness". Which is my experience with people in university.

It does appear that the more literate people are, the more likely they are to have not had sex...I don't know what happened with Neuroscience then. And yes, I consider mathematicians to be more literate than English majors...then again PoliSci is higher than History.

So I don't know...there seems to be little obvious correlations, however clear separations by major.

This is in Science and Society; because the sexual choices of different career paths influence our society. These are the ethics of our different professions.

I'm a chemistry major, and I'm not getting any, but at least I am not a virgin.

It's obvious why Studio Arts has 0% and Art history only 37%...that is...if you've ever met them. And to be fair "Undecided" is most likely majority Freshman...any one who's lived in the dorms knows...

One reasonable correlation hidden in there might be religion. Math and certain other majors tend to attract fundies, studio arts and similar hotbeds of irresponsible immorality tend to deflect them, and fundies do tend to delay having sex.

Fundies also tend to lie about having had sex, disproportionately, in anonymous situations.

This is true; as a general rule I've always considered mathematicians to be literate because of the complexity of learning the 'languages of math'.

These are undoubtedly possible. So you think overall that the correlation is "What majors attract religious fundamentalists?"

It is a well known fact that neuroscientists are total sluts.

That would be one of the hidden correlations.

Another one would be small number effects - notice that the more popular and numerous majors tend to cluster toward the mean.

Another one might be an ideological or home cultural bias in the definition of "virgin", correlated with major - does it count mutual masturbation? All forms of oral sex? Even US culture, never mind the foreign contingent well represented at a school like Wellesley, is not uniform in that regard.

It's worth noting that Wellesley College is an all-women school. The statistics might be very different for men. I would also want to know how many people they sampled for each major. If there were only four or five data points for the studio art or neuroscience majors, the statistics don't really mean anything.

Yes, that probably dents the statistics quite a bit. I think we need more surveys like this.
