I propose that after someone gets banned, permanent or temporary, that the moderator responsible post a thread regarding who it was that got banned, the reasoning for the ban, as well as the length of time that the ban is in effect. (Possibly in the Open Government or About the Members section) Here are my reasons... 1) It would help keep threads on track, instead of getting threadjacked by someone saying "Where is so and so?' "What did they do" etc... in the middle of a nonrelated topic. 2) It would be like a public announcement service of sorts, not only teaching the rest of the members what is and isn't acceptable forum practices by use of direct example; but it would as well provide a dedicated space for members to keep track of and discuss the banishments if so desired without affecting non-related subject matter.
I agree with the OP. Ban list is shit, often doesn't give enough information, I think moderators might be a little less trigger happy if they have to write something of a report every time they ban someone, which would be a good thing.
I understand that, however my suggestion is to transfer each new ban into a thread. Or I suppose the members can do so for themselves. :shrug:

Yeah he'll do that, just make stuff up. And why wouldn't he? When he has no responsibility to justify his actions. I think it's obvious they should be required to make a thread about the ban, thoroughly explaining why they did it and giving evidence of what the member did to deserve it. It would also be a good place for members to come in and be like "wtf? no way, blah blah blah", or conversely, "good work james r, yes that was unacceptable behaviour (quality porn though...)". The ban list is totally inadequate, a half assed political gesture to disguise the reality that there is no quality control on the mod's decisions.
For my money - too much trouble, too little gain - only general whining who deserves what and why it isn't fair.
It's only trouble if you ban people, and that should be trouble. Even in texas there's a whole mess of administritive procedures that come with executing someone.
Would you really want a 20th thread of whining about Reiku being banned again? I wouldn't. It's not the thread that's the problem, it's all the whining that follows. Current system is more peaceful. And since sciforums is not a democracy, these threads would not really matter.
What really gets my goat, though, is when James R plays the "anti-Semitic" card. After a hard day's work, I settle atop my majestic computer chair, adjusting its height to meet my approval. Comfortably, with a frosty beverage at hand, I visit Sciforums to unload all of the stress and anger that had accumulated since my last visit. Things are going swimmingly until, of course, our resident Jews infect lively and prosperous threads with their cancerous comments and incessant whining. So, as a result of the Jewry's subtle yet lethal poison, members such as myself, restricted in motion by concepts foreign to Jews (such as pride and sportsmanship), are forced to face these issues head on. Ultimately, snickering Jews (such as CheskiChips and Mr. Spock) prevail, thanks to their unorthodox and snake-like tactics; lions such as myself, blessed with immeasurable power, goodwill, and hospitality, are tricked into the abyss that is the banning. And for what? I dare - better yet, I triple-fucking-dog dare - anybody within this website to directly declare to me that members such as Mr. Spock and CheskiChips contribute better material to these forums than me. Go ahead and try. Why do I get banned for "anti-Semitism" when my only crime is revealing the corrupt yet highly intricate system used exclusively by Jews? Meanwhile, these Jews go about unscathed, creating threads entitled "Will Obama Bomb Israel?", all the while keeping a straight face and being rewarded by active participation within the threads in question. I, for one, am tired of it. Anti-Semitism should be encouraged on this website - not punished. James R knows that "anti-Semitism" is neither fair nor adequate reasoning in the event of my banning; as a result, he consistently claims I "posted pornographic material" in addition to justify the unjustifiable. Why do I return? That is a question I have not yet found a satisfactory nor resolute answer for. Perhaps the good samaritan in me sees the necessity in educating those less knowledgeable than me; perhaps it was my preconditioned destiny to expose the lies and manipulative techniques practiced overwhelmingly by outwardly righteous Jews; or, if all of these aforementioned reasons prove to be untrue, I simply have nothing better to do on the Internet. Being a believer in efficiency and willpower doesn't make one a Nazi, as I also used to hold a Hitler avatar; however, it is held purely because of the strength of the man and the strength of his will, not necessarily because of any agreement with his ideology. Kadark: Your most recent ban, if I recall correctly, followed your suggestions that certain other forum members engage in a variety of explicit sexual acts, which you described in detail. Pornographic material need not be visual, Kadark. There are actually pornographic novels and stories and other writings out there. Maybe you only like to look at pictures, but please realise that posting sexually explicit words can constitute pornography. If you're not sure, please ask me (by PM) before you post and I'll educate you as to what is appropriate and what is not. You're walking a very fine line, Kadark. You are warned again. Oh, and by the way, your Hitler avatar is most likely offensive in the extreme to Jewish people.
