well basicly i feel like its not the place it was when i first discovered the place.... it seems to be lacking the same intelectual discussions it once was composed of. I'm not saying they're completly gone, just that its less that way now. Also i see people come on this board to promota their crackpot theories, like stapling a poster to a phone pole. I still stay here, but it seems like you have to search a little harder for meaningful discussion.

well i stay mostly in Physics & Math and General Science. Its mostly the free thoughts section where i see the decay. Just like others have said before, people are focusing more on the "free" aspect than the "thoughts" part of it.

I dont bother getting involved in those types of discussions. Theres also the guy who cant prove anything himself, yet is convinced he can prove everyone else wrong.

you make a good point cosmicdisturbance, however I was not suggesting instant ridicule. After a few posts you can pretty much tell what kind of mindset the poster has. If they have any intention of intelectual disciscussion, I dont think they would come in here and make a bunch of stupid posts at first. I could see new posters come in angry to refute ideas or concepts, but someone who wanted to add to the community should make a good impression. I say sure, slap them on the wrist at first, give them a chance. But if they prove they arn't and have no intention of contributing somthing, then the hell with them.

I have a big problem with people who join and all of a sudden they have 150 new posts by the end of the week. I know who they are. Most of the new members seem to want to post short little stupid things just to see their posting number go up.

Ive been a member for over a year now, Ive got about 1200 posts some of these new people have 256 posts and have been a member for 2 weeks. I just don't see how its posable to be a good poster when you make that many posts.

Its quality not quantity.

The problem is that different people come here for different reasons. A science forum as large and active as this one while drawing many perspectives on an issue can also draw excessive clowning. Not to mention repressed personalities afflicted with chronic typing diarhea. Is that how diarhea is spelled?
