A large part of his philosophy is that man is naturally bestial and needs the state to keep him from preying on his neighbors... You'll have to be more specific. Frotiw 02-20-03, 04:35 AM Buy a history of philosophy book containing Hobbes. I recommend "Jones'" for an introduction. You can't sum the work of a philosopher in a couple of lines in forum. Also it's impossible to know what you concider "of value". Cheers one_raven 02-20-03, 04:56 AM Hmmm, something of value... Hobbes the tiger (of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes) was named after (and loosely based on) him. Does that help? He thought that ideas of mind come from experience anticipating other empirists like John Locke or David Hume who causes deep influences on the filosofy and science. From a political view, he purposed the social contract theory wich, oppossitely to Locke and Jean Jaques Rousseau, said that citizens give a part of their liberty to the king who administrates society. Excuse me for my poor level of english. Pi.r.Squared 02-24-03, 07:22 AM Ive heard of him but i dont know who he is. |
