I just realised that I passed 1000 posts! I only average 2.03 (give or take) posts a day, so I have been here for quite some time. Yay! It's about the only internet forum that I keep visiting. There always seems to be something new here. It's havrd to believe that a semi-intelligent online community exists.

Anyway, I'd just like to say thanks to Sciforums for all the stuff that I have learned and thanks for the opportunity to contribute to the forum.

I'm fifth now on the member list with most posts. That's sad.

Something happens after a 1000 posts. You either stop or you accelerate.

I think people pay more attention to what you say after 1000 posts.

I find that htis forum is really bad for ignoring new members. It's probably because most new members quit before they reach 100 posts.

Yay, I didn't quit before I reached 100 posts! I tend to ignore anyone without an avatar or the little description thingy that seems to have replaced sigs.
Grrr, I introduced Nuttyfish to this forum, and he has more posts than me!
I wonder what SF will be like in a years time
What shall we do about the thousands of new members that don't post? Don't they take up bandwidth?

I think what happens is that you go to a new forum, start arguing with lots of new people. After 1,000 posts or something like that, you get bored of arguing with the same people, especially since most people actually have something to do outside sciforums. Then over time you find new arguments, but your post rate drops, and new peopel pop up, though often wanting to rehash the same old boring arguments, but if they are refresheed enough arguments its possible to jump in and carry on.

Then whats really annoying is if the forum shuts down on you, like my previous one. I was well over 1,000 posts on it, and planning on hanging around for years, since it was a local forum and I felt a certain proprietary interest.

I find that most forums that I join get too boring after the first few days. Usually it's the same old complaints anf questions that relate to the forum topic.

I like it how Sciforums has categories from all over the spectrum, but it is designed for scientifically minded people, like me, who also enjoy arts, philosophy and other subjects. While this forum might get repetitive at times, there is always at least one or two topics that keep me interested. I read more than I post, so I know this forum quite well. I think this forum has just enough members to have good discussion throughout the day, not too many so that we don't run into problems with "n00bs".

I think I'll be staying for the next while, especially when I go to University (soon). I am posting more than ever because at work, we have super busy hours and then some days, we have ten people go through the library just to use the computers, so I end up posting a lot on those boring days.

sorry I wasn't aware of your gender, salt
however, when I said "man", I wasn't really referring to your gender, but used it as an exclaimation or emphasizing word, eg. "cool, man!"

I don't know. I noticed Dr Lou Natic way before he was even close to 1000 posts. I think that I even mentioned him in this very early stage in a thread about most interesting posters or something like that.

I did notice that I myself was unnoticed until 2000 posts or so. Or ignored.

At post 300 Flores called me "Rosy, baby". I almost died of bliss. But ever since, nobody has called me a nice name. As if I really had thorns.

    Rosie my dear,

they call me monkey if they want to insult me. Silly isn't it? But it can also be a sign of respect. Then they call me the monkey. But the monkey can also be a sign of loathing. Forums are tricky.
