I wish I could get that message out there. There is a far to casual approach to the fire problem. All that needs to happen is to be quick getting a bomber there. Maybe rockets full of environment friendly fire retardant that can be launched as an even faster response.
The use of fire to be banned providing a hole that the market can fill.

drone patrols operating like the japan public transport system ... over lapping loops...
to spot new fires down wind of the fire front would be good
having several tankers able to do low level short drops on such fires might help reduce the spread.

but its all money for nothing as far as business is concerned. it has to all come from the government.

maybe a national bush fire levy needs to be created as a government insurance fund pool
    contents insurance
house insurance and a tiny levy on vehicle insurance
probably need a farm adjusted rural pool fund levy that does not disadvantage large farm areas.

Sydney should not have a water problem... we bought a water desalinator just like we were told todo. The promise was grand and when you think of the money we have spent keeping it maintained I know there will be no problem. Unless of course that we were scammed. So I wonder how the water desalinator is going? How much to get a couple of thousand liters...well

We were sold the thing to head off climate change so here is the opportunity to show if the sale was BS .. .can it deliver? Will it deliver? If not we have blown a couple of billion to stop the sky falling.

A good test to see if the sale was a genuine benefit or just a scam relying on the sky is falling attention getter.

And it is hard to say to folk who are working hard to control fires that they need to improve but they must...fires need to be regarded like an invading enemy..immediate over kill responce ...nothing else is acceptable.

And these folk lighting fires who are they?

    Why do they light fires?

Forget climate change for a moment fix this most immediate and pressing problem.

The start of fires must be addressed ..all the climate change discussion must wait....folk who are into crisis actually seem happy that we have all these fires taking glee from a "I told you so" position. That is a worry..no compassion just taking a smug position..a pox on them..

Humans are starting the fires..not climate change and you watch the denials..it is change..that's all we will hear..no listen..humans are starting the fires..humans...stop humans starting fires and we may cope a little better.

Humans.. deny that if you dare.

Why can't our tax pay for it?
I look around and see no tax directed to my community...the Lord must protect the peasants...else he don't have the right to the castle.. protect us oh princely one or bugger off...no protection no tax...now thats a t-shirt right there.

    From wiki.

Water quality concerns regarding the proximity of the seawater inlet to the desalination plant to the nearby sewage ocean outfall.[35] Environmental economists from the Australian National University studied the project after its completion and determined that "it was a costly decision that did not need to be made while dam levels were high." [36] In 2014, it was reported that the desalination plant was costing the taxpayers $534,246 per day as the plant sits idle. This was the price that the NSW Liberal-National Coalition government agreed upon when they set the 50-year lease with the plant's owners upon privatisation in 2011. To turn off the desalination plant all together would cost an extra $50 million.[

Half a million a day to sit idle...scammed again. I mean really three and a half million a week...f..K why not just buy bottled water...

On holiday - to lazy to Google

Anyone know of any country running desalination at a reasonable cost for amount of water produced?

    Not looked at stats lately

One way I would test the system

Ya your desalination plant sounds great idea. Tell you what YOU build the plant and we (government) will buy the water at x% above what we are producing it now. After two years we will buy the plant and order (2 or 3 or 10) more

You could put any number in there because NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

We do it for about $2000 per acre-foot. But that's using ocean water. For brackish water you could cut that in half.

I would also point out that in hilly regions, pumping salt water to a high tank (say, 500 feet up the side of a hill) then using that to run an RO process is very cost effective, because you can use 100% renewable power and "store" the energy for use at night.

It only supplies 15% of Sydney's needs.
Water consumption is approx 200lt/day/person.. .mmm 15% is 30lts a day which is more than enough for a survival situation...I have survived on 3 lts a day.
I would like to see a few Plover Dam projects, it's in China where they have dammed a bay and replaced sea water with fresh water.
The chances of that happening are. zero..think of the migrating fish...but I expect we really need to do that sort of thing...

the nuclear waste land issue Vs clean & green mediation ...
its a tricky concept because if everything burns to the ground then the level of pollution is going to be probably more than had they used horrific fire retardants to prevent it.
the law of averages for limited damage tends to be applied as a normalcy to qualitative thought routines.
that is often assumed as common sense by simple minded/manipulative people.

    no water no power usually.
so if the rain doesnt come there is no electricity to run the desalinator.
but they probably didnt want to commit to that reality when they wanted to tick boxes and rubber stamp their own efficiency and bonus targets.

    Coal fired desalinator ? lol
probably better to have a mini nuclear reactor combined with foot ball stadium sized solar array.

but what person in their profession is going to be the person who spends their next 50 years of budget money on purchasing the land to put up the solar array to compete as a loss against the house market prices ?

    designed to fail !
instances like this is where centralized government with its dictatorship powers are required to be the benevolent dictator.
though i would rate aussie close to 1st or second equal in the world when it comes to social policy for national betterment, along side Canada, until you add the refugee issue then it tends to all fall over on a human rights basis.

it is good to see the police being able to tackle arsonists.
very impressive, must be very difficult to catch them

if i was a farmer in assuie and saw someone on my land trying to start a fire...

urban neighborhoods could probably well do with setting up fire patrols of groups of 5 people patrolling together.

identifying piles of rubbish to be removed.
potential hot spots and helping people have the basic steps ready to evacuate
garden hoses fitted and ready to use.
    etc etc...
but who wants to lose their wages to do a job no one is paying for when they have insurance ?

Capitalism is not always your friend

... why are rain water catchment tanks not made compulsory on all new builds ?

what are they waiting for ?
catastrophic fire risk ? combined with city and state wide massive water and electricity shortages looming ?

applied like the same vigor as superannuation
which you cant use if you burn to death or die from smoke inhalation
and if it all goes to pay for building your replacement house then you have no money to live on ... and you end up being old & poor and asking for charity to pay for food & electricity & air conditioning money ...

Grab anyone with a record and run full blown trials ...it would be great to find folk who are guilty but start many trials to get the message out there..not fair? Sure but folk are dieing it's not fair for them either...if someone is reasonably suspected prosecute and let them get out of it...but if you are not running trials folk think it's no big deal to light a fire. Make it so folk don't even think about it because the consequences of a conviction means their life is over..jail or hang them...the only way we are starting to have impact on DUI is heavy policeing and penalties that make a higher proportion of the population think before they drink and drive...once I thought it was ok.. like most I thought I can drive when drunk ...but seeing the police everywhere and realising it's a punishable crime changed my drinking and driving habits...a big stick is not the only motivation but it usually works...forget individual rights ..300 homes destroyed and we don't know how many deaths requires strong action...heck if we had a terrorist attack and that damage was done can you imagine the responce...fire starters need to be treated like terrorists.. if linked to a fire where death results make the charge murder and let them wriggle and burn their assets to have it reduced to manslaughter ..still give them the same jail time.

i think advocating and assisting the community to help be vigilant and seek capture of offenders is better than throwing petrol on salem witch trials

there is probably a long list of busines owners who are hoping to have their busines burnt to the ground so they can take the insurance money and not have to lose the losses to operating profit over the next 12 months.

there is nothing new in that.
assigning the repeat offender as being culpable or the drug addict as culpable as a whipping girl is only going to state sanction vigil anti processes.
and vigil anti processes only tend to undermine the states ability to deliver equal law to the rich and the poor and the powerful.

    usa is a good example
why cant the public simply shoot any police officer on sight because they are carrying a gun and based on statistical rating pose a direct threat to life for shooting people who are innocent ?
    statistically .. it stands up

however, you will never see the police endorsing vigil anti use of fire arms because it directly contradicts their given superior legal authority to execute lethal force among unarmed innocent people.
all be those levels of training and employment candidate selection sometimes found to be floating in the gutter.

    you want to unite people
    not divide people
installing capital and corporal punishment and vigil anti levels of abandonment of legal due process and standards of innocence only push society toward a more brutal uncivilized reality.

a millionaire business owner paying someone to burn down their company ..
should be charged with financing terror and have all their family assets and money taken away permanently by the state ?
    all bank accounts frozen
all houses land and vehicles permanently confiscated with no compensation ?

the elderly person who never checks their appliances for electrical certification which causes a fire which kills people and destroys property....

the craving for revenge tends to bloody the drinking water for the majority of innocents.

    "subjective guilt by assignment"
is what war lords, child slave traders and fascists and dictators and terrorists do

once you lower your civil society to their level...
what is the point in pretending ?

    I bet that feels better.
One thing at a time. Prevention of fire and faster more effective responce to any fire.
In a fire ban the first hint off the bombers go with a ground team closing in to mop up ..and a special force to track down who lot it...and make a display of how hard that force is going to look...
And certain nly hunt down the folk who concern you..bad behaviour needs to be addressed...and the focus can't hurt the cause of climate change..we have to take such an extreme approach because climate change means we have to put fires out the moment they are detected...

mostly only to a measured degree
like finding something awful that needs to be disposed of.
you retain the memory, recognize the work and encounter the senses ...
fashioning it to be better is a very very hard skill that may take me more than 1 life time to master

i think while insurance and cheap low cost production has helped lower poverty and increase technology and save labour and suffering ... it is like a un piloted thing, it is only a question of time before it fails spectacularly because of its design.
that human element that defines the often diverse range of problems also defines that human coal face interactive process.

with the baying hounds of alt-right nationalism and xenophobic sentiment being so readily publicized it needs steady sane hands on the wheel of systems of social governance.
