    Review here http://knolinux.com/2007/03/29/pclinuxos-2007.aspx

These are things you can run using WINE, it allows some Windows games & stuff to be used with Linux.

I'm going to try completely and totally converting over to PCLinuxOS. It simply makes Vista's features straining to use, and the terrible implimentations on Vista like it's constant nagging with the UAC. I'm done, this is my notice that Vista and future Windows can goto hell!

I have never liked wine, it runs too slow and gives me more of a headache than regular windows. If you absolutly need windows apps, dual boot. Linux has transformed into a very user friendly OS, and windows should not even be necessary.

I used Linux for two years and hated it. All of the wonderful freeware I use is for Windows only, and there were also serious compatibility problems with some devices and peripherals.

Dijkstra inspired Pascal. Do you think that was a good thing?

Linux is cool enough, but it doesn't like my hardware. So, I stick with Windows (XP for now).

I use Linux. Not out of some inordinate hate for Microsoft, but because it is superior in my opinion.

Okay, I'm not very computer literate, but what the hell does the OP system do for you? As I see computers and use them, I don't even care what OP system I'm using ...I don't even care, I don't think. If I can click on some icon and bring up Word or Excel or whatever program, then it's up there to use ...never does Windows come into play at all that I can see or tell.

I've been fooling around with it for a few days, PCLinuxOS is tbe best distro for Windows converts, the problems I've had are a few basic things:

    1. The password implimentation isn't reliable, I enter a password and it thinks I'm lying, then I try again later and it'll work. Make a note it's only within the framework of the KDE interface, so it seems... werid... like the Control Center, Synaptic, and the login menu, they sometimes think I am giving the wrong password so trying over and over again it will eventually work, wtf

    2. The refresh rate on my display is only like 75 HZ even though it goes up to 100 HZ in windows. There seems no way around this even using nVidia drivers, so wtf... they tell me it's a limit of KDE, oh well :C

    1. If it says you're giving the wrong password, you are giving the wrong password.
May be a caps lock pressed or a letter left out.

    2. That's bullshit. And if the KDE doesn't let you increase the refresh rate (which would be odd, if you have selected the right monitor), then there's a workaround, but it might be a bit tough for you.

Just to let you know, I run a duel boot system. Kubuntu and Windows XP. Kubuntu is by far the better desktop in all area's... but one. Gaming.

Sure you can get a lot of games to run easly on kubuntu, with applications like Cedega, and a lot more native games are been written, but I play battlefield 2.. a lot. And kubuntu while it can play the single player version, it gets pwned by punkbustuster when I try play on ranked servers. Hence the reason for the windows xp bootup option.

Here's a videocapture I did of PCLinuxOS configured to my liking. I'm sure there's more to learn but I have time... as for the OS itself it's amazing, how can Ubuntu be better :C~

Also the best thing, I compiled my first thing, if you call it that.. I downloaded XVidCap and had to figure out what libs were missing, then run ./configure, make, make install, it wasn't easy because I was missing some libs but found them on Synaptic.

    Burn Vista

windows wont be abandoned ever, because what you get for money it means more quality than free stuff. Also if you use win stuff then why to use linux?
i tried linux for couple of times and i call it matrix it involves skills such as programing and thinking but at the end windows are more usefull on gaming and not so complicated. The only minus is security of windows which everybody hates and complains, but if you knew half of the linux stuff it is equaly secure.

    A naive, marketing brainwashed view.
I use Linux for 6 years and at no time I have had a need to program anything.
As for thinking, yeah, you should probably visit a brain care specialist.

And linux involves programming if you want to get something good out from them like to set up server or configure core.
