Just figured a thread like this could be useful, to showcase the best in humanity:

It warms the heart to see that simple kindness isn't dead...

I was once walking along the waters edge which was about 8 to 10 feet above the water when I looked down into the water I saw a man bobbing up and down trying to kill himself. I started taking with him and shouted to other people to call the fire rescue department. I grabbed a long stick and kept talking to the man and to grab the stick for I wanted to help him with his problems which I did talk with him. He did hold onto the stick and finally the rescue department came and got him out OK and I went over to him and told him to get the help he needed at the hospital. He thanked me and I left. Just knowing that I saved this mans life was quite a honor knowing he was alive because of my efforts.

*nods* I have had the... I don't want to say pleasure because that isn't the right descriptor, but yeah... of talking with people who were suffering from suicidal depression / contemplating suicide and I take heart in the fact that all but one of them is, to my knowledge, still alive today... I like to think I helped in some small way.

The one that is not though... I don't have many regrets, because I earnestly believe that holding onto regret for something you cannot change is foolish... but I do regret not having tried harder to get through to her.
