Plastic-eating caterpillars could cut down on pollution

Alien hunters spot ‘ancient tree stump’ on Mars

Aliens probably look more like fish than humans

Amazon is on the hunt for mad scientists
The solar system humanity calls home may have once been inhabited by an extinct species of spacefaring aliens, a top scientist has suggested.

A space scientist has suggested ancient extraterrestrials could have lived on Mars, Venus or even Earth before disappearing without a trace.

In a fascinating academic paper about “prior indigenous technological species,” James T. Wright from Pennsylvania State University raised the fascinating possibility that evidence of these extinct aliens could exist somewhere in the solar system.

Wright is an astronomer who received global attention after suggesting an “alien megastructure” had been spotted in orbit around a distant star.

Now the stargazer has said advanced aliens may have left behind “technosignatures” for us to find – if only we knew where to look for them.

“A prior indigenous technological species might have arisen on ancient Earth or another body, such as a pre-greenhouse Venus or a wet Mars,” he wrote.

However, most of the archaeological evidence of an ancient civilization would probably have been lost.

Earth’s plate tectonics would effectively “erased” the traces of a civilization that lived billions of years ago.

Venus is in the grip of a severe greenhouse effect and also undergoes similar “resurfacing” which would scour its land clean of artifacts.

This leaves just a handful of places where archaeologists might find traces of a lost extraterrestrial civilization.

“Remaining indigenous technosignatures might be expected to be extremely old, limiting the places they might still be found to beneath the surfaces of Mars and the Moon, or in the outer Solar System,” Wright added.

If this have some truth , then creation stands and we are full of the brown stuff up our eyes.

    Really?

    I really mean really?

    Evidence?

    Followed by

    WE SPECULATE??????

How about a double column list

    Head one Aliens on Earth

Head other one Age of Earth

Start listing the evidence for both

    Speculation indeed

Friend, it comes from research in science from a prestigious University .
    Is there anything wrong ?

No, it comes from a quip from a researcher looking for a little attention. He isn't claiming to have evidence. When you have no evidence you can speculate in any way that you want. You don't see this article appearing in any Science Magazines with any credibility behind it.

The Sun is well-known to be a rag. You would do no worse if you got your science news from Jerry Springer.

Seattle said it: he isn't claiming to have evidence; he is simply speculating.

    A space scientist has suggested...
...raised the fascinating possibility that evidence of these extinct aliens could exist
...aliens may have left behind “technosignatures”...
    ...species might have arisen...

    Speculation is free.

What research? As others have said, it is merely speculation. Not research at all.

We know you'd like the bible to be literally true, but you'll have to try an awful lot harder than this.

You are wrong in your last statement.
My point is sarcasm ( everything from a university supposed to be scrutinised ) yet there is coming a lot of bull. I suppose it might be true " publish or perish " so everything goes.

Wait. Let me get this straight.

You presented an article as if sincere.
We pointed out it's essentially meaningless.
    You defended it.
We continued to point out it's essentially meaningless.
Now you're claiming you were being sarcastic, and "really" thought it was meaningless.

    About right?

You can't have been to a university, then! University dons and researchers are just as capable of making sensational or provocative remarks as the rest of us - possibly more so: many of them love the limelight.

If this had been a report of RESEARCH, then yes it would have been scrutinised.

But it wasn't research, it is just some alleged remarks, reported second hand by a journalist, for a newspaper of fairly low repute.

Can you see the difference between that and a publication of research findings?

Oh, this is the Magical Realist technique: execute a switch between seriousness and facetiousness if the argument against you starts to get tough.

Why are you so arrogant ? do you think you are the ONLY ONE who went to the University?

I just do it to annoy you, of course.

But seriously, why can't you understand the difference between remarks to a journalist and a piece of research? It's not hard.

    There's publish and there's publish.

You can publish the results of real research which your peers will review and some day you may remembered as a guy who contributed a little piece of the puzzle.

Or you can casually mention the possibility of something sensational to a journalist in the hope that some rich goober like Elon Musk will fund your research.
