They're not the ones wishing death on people.

People judge atheists and religious alike based on their actions. And based on your actions here in this forum, people will have a more negative view of religious types. They will see them as bitter, angry, hateful people who prefer violence to reason. Are you sure that's how you want to present yourself?

You could say the same of drug dealers. They're not molesting children, they're not marching armies in the crusades, they're not killing innocent people trying to suppress freedom; instead they are just making a lot of money selling products to people to make them happy. Why is that wrong?

But taking their money for doing that is. Inspire away, but it is not Christian to make lots of money doing so. Christianity is not a for profit enterprise, it's a charitable one. That's part of why it is tax exempt(as are contributions). If it becomes just another business then it must start paying those taxes just like every other profit making enterprise must do. These are simple, straightforward concepts, your continued non-understanding must be deliberate trolling

So Jesus must have been a very rich man, right? Idiocy. If you are rich, you are not and cannot be a Christian because Jesus told the rich to sell all they have and give the money to the poor, no loopholes, no exceptions. There are no clearer messages that Jesus gave and Jesus is the man who determines what being a Christian means. This is not in question, you are simply wrong, again. I am not a Christian as religious people count it, and I think Jesus's position is a bit too extreme(pure Socialism doesn't work in the real world), but no one said being a true, authentic Christian was easy.

I just listened to two of Olsteen's podcasts. The positivity eases my mind. Just the very idea that serving others is serving God is very healing. I acknowlege what you're saying about how a rich man asked Jesus how a rich man could go to heaven, and the whole "eye of the needle" doctrine. I understand that you and wegs are having trouble about that teaching. But quite frankly, it's a not a concern to me. If the guy is making money from his book deals, that's between him and God, that has nothing to do with me.

I reject athiesm because it is always calling someone an idiot, etc. I have never ever ever heard an atheist call for love or for peace or for compassion or for healing. Yet in Olsteen's podcast, he talked about love, and God's love and loving others in every other sentence. But you atheists are more concerned about money than you are about love. I reject that doctrine. There are more important things in life than money. Sometimes happiness and peace of mind are more important than money. Sometimes a preacher deserves financial wealth because he has created so much spiritual wealth. Atheism is about destroying spiritual happiness, so I reject it.

Atheists never preach love. They are only suspicious of love. Atheists love their money more than they love love, love peace of mind or even joy. That is why I reject atheism.

If you mean initiated threads, yes, I don't initiate many. But how many Threads of the "Atheists Suck" variety have you initiated? Do you think our House got better at voting for the repeal of Obamacare over 40 times? I think slowly and my typists(Hunt and Peck)are worth exactly what I pay them.

One reason I post so little in the Religion subforum is I feel no need to convert those who believe. Nor do I feel a need to denigrate believers for their beliefs. The fact that denigrating Atheists for their beliefs(actually lack of a certain subset of beliefs)was exactly what you and Mazulu were doing is why I posted at all. As far as Christianity goes, I am probably more knowledgeable and versed in it's philosophy than most Christians, I agree with much of Jesus's actual philosophy and try to live my life by his precepts. I just don't buy the superstitious mumbo jumbo attached to his story by the religionists. Jesus's philosophy stands on it's own, it's a pretty good framework for civilization(a little TOO Socialist, maybe). Too bad the Christian religion no longer even comes close to actually following Christ.

I agree, there are to many of us christian by name but without substance to show. But what would be if we don't adhere to the teaching as a whole .? I think it would be even worse.

    Atheists never preach, period.

Wonder how they ever manage to reproduce.

The only "love of money" we've even discussed is that of a huckster shearing the Christian flock. I don't think he's a Christian, but that's what he calls himself. I don't love money, I'm barely acquainted with it.

But if the shoe fits...? Your behavior is best described by that word, only you can do anything about that.

You've not heard a word we've said here, evidently. Maybe you should get your hearing checked, it seems to be a universal attribute in all you do.

Maybe you ought to tell Joel, he's the pastor that just bought the 10 million dollar house, I live in a trailer down by the river, in the spring it becomes a house boat.

Yes, and they ought to be free of charge as well.

Joel's not an Atheist, and he's the only one shown to have the most love of money in this thread. I would love to have some, but I'm used to having little or none, yet I'm happy(ish). It seems to be true that money won't buy happiness, but I'm told it will rent it for a while. I wouldn't know.

That is never true, you can't produce spirituality if profit is your goal, though a good huckster can fake it. Remember Jim Baker and PTL? Gold plated bathroom fixtures and gay frolics in the shower. Tammy's mascara running down her face. A pastor deserves a living, don't muzzle the oxen and all that, but he should not be a pastor if fleecing the sheep of their Social Security checks is what he is doing, so he can build his castle, with gold plated commodes. He works for a charity, for Pete's sake. A tax exempt charity. Nice racket.

What Joel does is no different in principle that what Katy Perry does. Provide enjoyment for money. But Katy Perry is not a charity, she is up front that if you pay her money she will sing for you and entertain with her wacky show and sunny(if slightly slutty)personality. Joel does the same thing, don't think for a second that the handsome young lad doesn't lubricate the hinges of mature women's purses. The problem is that he works for a charity, he is not ethically supposed to make a profit in a charitable enterprise, his employer's standards I've posted before and all those poor pensioners could get the same thing down at the local church for free, or even read the inspirational source in their own easy chair with a cup of tea.Making a profit from the fear of death all olds experience is no more moral than making a profit by denying decent healthcare to those same people. He is making a profit on the needs of people while representing a charity that pays no taxes. Doesn't make him an ax murderer, but it's pretty sleezy.

I don't know what to tell you, Grumpy. I'm not afraid to pay money to find some happiness, some peace of mind. I'm sure as hell not getting it for free from any atheists. But even then, I agree with you; I don't like being shaked down for money either. There is a church down the street where I live. They post their financials on the wall (debts and income). I appreciate that they're up front about the realities of expenses that churches have to pay for. I'm a big boy, I understand that electricity, maintenance and facilities all cost money. I also understand that some people are just dripping with charisma and can command more money just for their appearance.

That church down the street deserves your help more than Joel does. Churches, as an institution, do good among the community, and whether they do it because of a reason I don't share or one I do makes no difference to that. But if you want a role model for a truly spiritual man, Gandhi comes to mind.

Study the teachings of Jesus, get a good foundation in true Christianity and then take another look at Joel. If he were just an inspirational speaker he would be perfectly alright, I guess. But he is a representative of a charity and uses that charity to make himself rich, that's just not right.

I think an atheist world would be far less confusing, far more compassionate, and far more advanced.

They don't need to. They can love without a church telling them how to do it - and telling them who they can't love.

Summed up well by Penn Gillette:

“The word “holiday” comes from “holy day” and holy means “exalted and worthy of complete devotion.” By that definition, all days are holy. Life is holy. Atheists have joy every day of the year, every holy day. We have the wonder and glory of life. We have joy in the world before the lord is come. We’re not going for the promise of life after death; we’re celebrating life before death. The smiles of children. The screaming, the bitching, the horrific whining of one’s own children. The glory of giving or receiving a blow job. Sunsets, rock and roll, bebop, Jell-O, stinky cheese, and offensive jokes. For atheists, everything in the world is enough and every day is holy. Every day is an atheist holiday. It’s a day that we’re alive.”

    Can you say that?

These accusations by theist zealots are scientific proof that theism promotes exclusivity and their language is truly "confounded".

If you read these forums, anywhere the atheist and religious interact, I have never witnessed atheist exhibit love. There is always anger and hate, and bullying; anything but love. Is atheist love only done inside where nobody can see it?

Maybe we can do a count to see if atheism is honest or a mirror religion that is not about reality but propaganda.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of love from you, making all kinds of excuses why you shouldn't help the poor. Miserable sod.

Is that why we're all here, to exhibit love, on a science forum?

Is that what you see? Really? Or, are you projecting because the beliefs systems of theists are being criticized for what they are?

I would suspect that is where it belongs as opposed to on an open science forum.

Please, feel free to do so.

If you read the topic on the war on poverty, I have not suggested any such thing on that topic. I have only focused on the poor performance of the democrats generals in charge of that war. If you have not read that topic in politics, the war on poverty is 50 years old. We have spend $20.7 trillion and the percent of poor has not changed in 50 years although their numbers have skyrocketed due to more people. Does atheism also teach misinformation, and character assassination to go along with the hate?

I used to be an atheist, and did it for what is the main reason most irrational atheists do it for. The idea was to get away from the induced guilt and inhibition created by religion, so you can get into some of the stuff that is taboo. This change in orientation helps to resolve the moral conflict (hypocrisy), since the new herd will encourage and justify anything if it conflicts with or sticks it to religion. If Christianity says love, hate is OK. If Christianity says truth, lie and deception is OK. If Christianity says love your neighbor, atheism says gossip and misrepresent.
