Cellular Roaming Alliance of Melbourne in Australia have developed a new roaming technology for mobile telephone networks, called ZEBRA Roaming.

Unlike conventional roaming, ZEBRA does not use revenue sharing between carriers and hence there is no clearing, no roaming risk, no roaming charges, which leads to cost reductions for carriers and users. ZEBRA supports all wireless standards, all services (incl GPRS, i-mode etc) and all payment methods (prepaid and postpaid). ZEBRA coexists peacefully with conventional roaming.

For consumers to benefit from the new roaming system, carriers have to deploy ZEBRA. A project for deployment in Japan is under way.
