Do you acknowledge that a car moving at 20mph does more than twice as much damage as a car moving at 10mph?

If energy were directly proportional to velocity, then a car moving at 30mph would only knock over 3 mannequins. And a car moving at 60mph would only knock over 6 mannequins.

But a car moving at 60mph will easily knock over much more than a mere 6 mannequins - and not just knock over but pulverize them.

Why more than twice as much damage ?

The Universe is about three dimensional physical things .

Not mathematical nothing concepts . Such as 1 and 2 dimensional being real .

"Why" is a deep question.
I'm simply trying to get you to intuit that "speed kills".

See this chart?
At 40mph, it shows one death.
At 80mph it shows more than 10 deaths.

If going 80mph did only twice as much damage as going 40mph, you'd expect to see only 2 times as many deaths. No, it show that doubling the velocity more than doubles the damage.

More generally, see how the line is curved, not straight? The fact that it is curved means that the relationship between the two things being compared is non-linear; it is geometric.

Going twice as far along the x-axis results in more than going twice as far up the y-axis. That is the hallmark of a geometric scaling.

Of course it can .

We all know that , nothing new .

And the rest? Are you following?
Or are you just pulling my chain?

Just making a passing comment Dave. I think most of us know that at best river is just plain ignorant, and at worst a conniving troll.

His "why"questions are insincere and just reflect his trolling persona, but irrespective that "why" concept is answered best by Feynman here.....

take it easy!!

ps...you would be quite welcome with your scientific answers and logic over at SFN.

Yet you can't answer my questions , pad . Just go over here to this website , because it conforms to your mindset .

You mean your question as to why E=Mc2? It has been answered by Dave and others better then I could but your ignorance and trolling are standing in the way,
Let me add my 2cents worth anyway, even though this is school boy stuff.
Your problem as always is you claim to think outside the box, without knowing what is in the box and the evidence that supports it...Your problem is that you like to appear inquisitive and to require deeper answers, when in fact [as per the Feynman video] you lack to intelligence, the ability and worst of all the willingness to understand. As Dave said, with so little willingness to understand, you then decide to pull people's chains, as you did with me when I frequented this forum. I mean really, I don't believe even you can be that dense!
In answer to your question and in layman's terms it simply means that a small amount of mass equates to an enormous amount of energy. Your nonsensical claim re c squared cancelling out is pseudoscience and just you again pulling people's chain. To cancel out, terms need to be on opposite sides of the equation anyway. With regards to why c2 [c squared] I would think because the speed of light, "c" is a universal constant.

Now I certainly admit my gullibility in expecting you to accept that answer, or the answer of any of the others that have attempted to answer, or in fact any mainstream answer due to your usual anti mainstream stance and willingness in doing your best to refuse to understand anyway.
Just a reminder to some of the newbies who are not aware of your "condition", this is the same bloke who swore blind that Aliens have conducted a Atomic war on Mars! Because he read about it from some certified Kook called Branderburg I think?
Take it easy river, and troll as you like, I'm elsewhere simply because I am learning all the time unlike your own "mindset" of anti mainstream nonsense and thinking ignorantly outside the box.
ps: Oh and river you do understand [fingers crossed!] that most all new scientific hypothesis and theories all start out as "outside the box" thinking, don't you.

Here's the thing I never claimed c^2 in the equation E=mc^2 canceled out . It wasn't me . I merely asked the question on google , and got the answer I posted . And went from there , E=m .

No , I understand people will refer to all those who have gone before . Einstein , Feynman , etc. We all do .

My point is that , when we look at the Universe , physically three dimensionally , we get a bigger picture . Stars are spheres of energy , not points of light .

The speed of light is constant in a pure vacumm of space .

The space in the Universe is not a pure vacumm .

Feynman fubbles around the why things happen .

He has no straight answer .

Because his theory is based on two dimensional mathematics .

Why , things happen , in the three dimensional Universe , is because they , all things , are three dimensional physical objects . In and of themselves and the interactions amongst themselves .

Okay. Never mind.

For a moment there it almost looked like you wanted to learn something.

I did

What did miss though ?

He couldn't explain why the magnetic does what does .

Let me guess: you want me to say it again.

He , Feynman , couldn't explain why the magnetic field does what does , flows . With physical direction .

Good point. Therefore he's an idiot.

We should take the science away from the scientists and give it to the people who don't know how to science.

We could fire all the doctors and hire janitors to do their jobs.
We could sack all the software developers and get fish mongers to program our bank security.
We could have McDonalds cashiers operating Emergency Response Units.

We'd call it RiverWorld. It would be grand.

Take a deep breath . Be calm .

Understand this about me ; I have been thinking for 35 plus years .

My fundamental philosophy is , okay you say this ; but what does somebody else think .

Lets not confine our thinking .

Well, these scientists you dismiss have put men on the Moon, sent a probe out of our Solar System and discovered the Higgs particle.

Perhaps you might be more comfortable on a creative writing forum.
