There was an interesting article in thhe NY Times Science section. There are botanists trying to create a red Iris and a blue Rose. They are attempting to use genetic engineering techniques and selective breeding techniques. I think that millions of dollars have been spent on these endeavors. There has been modest success with the red Iris. They have developed rust red flowers, but no true pinks or reds.
