Rather, anyone who claims to be a muslim may be accosted with questions about his preferences in culture, society and legality; and given the large and significant minority of extremist opinion often surveyed in the islamic community, this is not entirely unexpected. DH's own opinions, for example, are far from humanitarian.

More anti-Western propaganda. No mention of the sins of islamic society; historical and present.

Here I can see DH's point. For example: why cannot dhimmitude end? Why cannot islamic society simply acknowledge the humanity and value of its non-muslim minorities? What is it that prevents the valuing of such people as equal members of society rather than second-class citizens? Something so paltry as the religious edict of a man dead for 1300 years? The overriding certitude that a given religious text constitutes "perfection" - a perfection so sure that its demands for the suppression of the non-believer must be followed? Surely this cannot be the only obstacle to real peace - and not "submission", which is something else altogether - between Eastern and Western culture. What is the use of hating the kuffar? Have they not suffered enough already - cultural genocide, the supplanting of their equality, the ongoing hatred of their consciences?

Let us have a fair and equal discussion of the desperate need for the equality of religious minorities in islamic society, and the correct methodology for the suppression of discriminatory religious influences in islamic politics. I worry that the fate of the non-believer will get swept under the carpet in the press for special treatment that islamists trumpet in their clarion call for equality and community through superiority and separation. Let us hear instead the words of the moderates, the reformers; let the islamists be muffled in the silence of their hollow morality.
