Can we judge a horse on its water drinking ability.

    We have all heard the saying, yet never discussed the quality of the water, the size of the horse, or how brilliant it was before exposed to an alterior way of drinking.

    Alterior isn't a word and ulterior makes no sense in this case either. Do you mean "alternate"?
