    There's that old argument that we don't measure time, or that clocks don't.

    Which hangs on how measurement is defined. I say an actual measurement must involve an exchange of momentum, time doesn't have any so . . .

    I agree. But IMO, that does not preclude the possibility of a mathematically based self-referential system. It would function in a quasi-intelligent mathematical manner but without the need for any emotional involvement or intent.

    After all, a mathematical equation is an unemotional self referential function.

    I agree, for our own understanding we need to qualify and quantify in order to model universal functions and patterns. The universe has no need for that. It merely needs to functions in accordance with strict universal laws, which appear to be mathematical in essence, lucky for us.

    Disagree

    Without any " Qualities " ( physical existence ) as being the foundation of the Universe , then the ability to " Quantify " any thing , is impossible . There are NO Functions and NO Patterns of any kind without the Qualities existing in the first place .

    Quantities , functions and/or patterns , can never form real physical fundamental objects , such as the Periodic Table on its own . Nor Atomics , Nor Sub-Atomics . And beyond this . Its not possible .

    There is NO way that mathematics is the Foundation of this Universe .

    Your logic Write4U makes no sense .

    Have you ever looked at the Table of Elements and what constitutes an element? If you see no patterns, you may want to look again.
    Mathematics is the ONLY way for the Universe to make sense.
    LOL, the logic of mathematics make no sense?

    Mathematical Logic.

    From my post and yours' post # 185

    But not to " Make " the Universe .

    To your last statement ;

    In what sense ?

    What is the basis upon which you draw upon your conclusion ?

    Write4U response ;

    What constitutes an element are physical things regardless of any measurement applied .

    Patterns based on a physical thing , in the table of elements .
