    Surprise suprise

I have visualised a line and imagined it twisting in space

It has a length and a width

At each end of the line in my imagination I do not see dots (points) to mark the ends of the line

When my imaginary line twist as soon as it gets to edge on IT VANISHES

In the REAL world a two dimensional line cannot even approach becoming REAL

Like TIME two dimensional objects cannot exist

Like NOW 3 dimensions are IT

Got to go will follow up more later
Going to a Christmas in July dinner
    There's something to think about

Look up CDT (causal dynamical triangulation) which assumes a 2D spacetime surface.
The surface of a sphere is 2D. Might as well look that up also.

As I understand it a manifold is a monster sphere.

I did look up CDT and like my first post in this thread where I stated some scientists claim that there may be multiple dimensions up to 13 or some number in that region

Since I lack understanding of the complexities of how they come to that view I'm in no position to form a view

In regards to CDT it's also in my DUR (Don't Understand Region

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

) although I have a glimpse of what they are getting at

If I had a greater knowledge of the mathmatics I might have a clearer idea

However going back to the title of the thread

I took the plain simple view it referred to real 3 dimensional objects

    And I stick with NO

Rub out or destroy any one and the object vanishes

Think of it this way which just popped into my 3 neurone brain

Remember I am only talking about real objects in a real world and that world (my limited knowledge world) has only 3 dimensions

If you like to dip below or float above 3 please leave me behind

Think of a Rubik's cube type arrangement each small cube a 10cm square

Each of the small cube components set at 10 X 10 per layer and having a 10 layer depth

    Visualise a exploded view

Remove the top layer of 100 cubes

(we are destroying the height dimension)

leaving a block 10 blocks long 10 blocks deep and now 9 blocks high

Even at this point of the thought experiment it is clear to me if you destroy 1 dimension you automatically destroy the other 2

WHEN YOU REMOVE THE BOTTOM LAYER

And to quote Forest That's all I have to say that that

This is in real world with real objects in only 3 dimensions

Below or above 3 leave me out

Nor do I, from a knowledge perspective. But I am not too proud to accept the knowledge of people who have devoted lifetimes studying these things.
There you go. I am only familiar with the maths of accounting, which certainly does not give me any authority on the subject, but like you I have an intuitive glimpse of what they're getting at.
    Why not withhold judgment?
Not really, it just changes form.
That's false modesty. Don't demean yourself. Like everyone else, you have several billion neurons in your brain. And you are entitled to your perspective.

But as Antonsen demonstrated, if you have any imagination, and you have proved you do possess the ability to think abstractly. It is a matter of desire to use that imagination, which is your choice. But using your imagination and trying to see things from different perspectives, does lead to greater understanding and speaking for myself, if I understand a scientific narrative, it is sufficient for my purpose of finding satisfaction in that greater understanding.

I have had several Eureka moments reading the narratives of several complex concepts such as relative wave compression and expansion, which change the frequency (pitch) of a sound. When I stand by the road and I hear a motorcycle approaching , passing me, and receding into the distance, I know why the pitch of the motor changes from high to low. It's really cool to experience this phenomenon in reality and know why it does that. And if you didn't know this already, you do now and the next time you see a motorcycle approaching at high speed, you will experience part of Einstein's theory of Special Relativity.
Are you asking me to use my imagination?....

I already agreed with that from a human perspective and our limited power of observation we can only observe a small slice of reality. But we can fill in a lot with our imagination. Seth dubbed it controlled hallucination.

At Planck scales, a plane, flat or curved, is a 2D object. This is consensus physics. We just don't live at that scale, but it does physically exist. Don't reject this reality. Just recognize you and I and everyone else don't live there either.

As to your imaginary twisting line , I didn't see it when you imagined it. Does that mean you did not imagine it?.....

Just means you were not inside my brain at the moment

If you had been I would have introduced you to Huey Dewey and Louie

So I'm a right brain thinker

Huey and Dewey on right Louie on left

If I come to see the dancer (who appears to be 2D spinning in 3D - to stay on topic) I will give up a night of crime fighting with my best sidekick

And a real line has less mass than a drawing of a line. But a drawing of a line has three dimensions whereas a real line has one.

Three points form a 2D plane, a triangle

But in reality three points form the depth of triangle into a three dimensional pyrimid.

No they don't. A fourth point is required to form a 3D object, a tetrahedron, which has volume. see post#50.

    Seen this video before .

This is the thing , the theory is that a 2D object legitimizes the existence of 3D objects . Nonsense .

3D objects allows the concept of 2D objects to exist .

3D thinking entities allow for the imagination of a 2D concept but not of any existence of a 2D object

No the surface of a 3D object is still 3D curved plane .

    The surface has depth .

    Why do you agree ?
