Having my two nieces come and live with me after the death of my sister has really given a different perspective that I wouldnt otherwise have, being without my own kids.

Recently, the one who is 17 years old confided to Uncle Carcano that she is really having trouble finding a boyfriend.

She's still in high school and has a very high IQ of 148...and so finds most guys pretty boring. According to her accounts, teenage males currently divide neatly into two camps.

    1. What she calls 'the grubs' who are primarily interested in sports, alcohol, and making loud noises...grunting, snorting and bellowing like farm animals.

    2. The nerds...these are guys who are intelligent but overly cynical about everything except themselves...while at same time being unwilling to bring a minimum level of physical discipline to their life. They are often too fat or thin and have bad posture from hunching over computer games.

    Whats a girl to do...

So I asked, what percentage of your high school population are BOTH intelligent and physically fit???

    About 1%...she replied.

Me: Well, thats not so bad...out of 2000 students there should be at least 10 eligible candidates.

Her: Yes...but how to get them all into the same place. What we need is a special club for alpha males.

Me: I'm afraid that will never work...the school authorities will consider it too elitist. My advice is to do VOLUNTEER WORK at cultural events, classical music concert halls, and the theatre. You're sure to eventually meet somebody with education and class.

So, what do you think people? Where do the ALPHA MALES hang out???

Nowhere near each other. Too much competition.

Instead of trying to help her hook up, maybe you should teach that she's going to spend a lot of time alone if her standards are so impossible. I mean, she's eliminating guys based on their freaking posture. And if she won't settle for less than a hot guy with a great body and an IQ to rival hers, you might as well keep your schedule clear for prom, because she ain't gonna have a date.

She should watch "Twilight" ten times in a row and then think - think long and hard - whether romantic love really is all that it is rumored to be.

She takes posture very seriously...yeap. You can learn a lot about a person from their posture. Look at how it perks right up for job interviews.

Alpha males dont congregate in herds? I think you're right.

Borrow a dvd from the library and watch it on your computer.

Seriously, at some point, one has to earnestly think about romantic love.
Romantic films with characters with super-human abilities can serve as a good trigger for such reflection.

Who really cares. There's lots of young men around that are considerate, appealing and responsible that are looking for someone to be with. As was stated she is going to be a very lonely woman when she gets older as she is setting her sights on people who are very difficult to not only find but are only interested in themselves and what they can achieve.

Depending on the school size/location,, there may be no alpha males at her school. That should not stop her from having fun at the prom, and enjoying the company of people who share her hobbies or interests. Start a anime club, or something similar that bring students from different nearby schools together.
Thirty mile radius is only a half-hour from home.

An intelligent female has a better chance to finish college and improve the financial opportunities she can obtain on her own, and so the quality of life she can maintain, after and if, a supporting male removes that support, or holds her at ransom in her behavior, with the threat of losing that support.

Carcano, good on her for setting her sights high.

If she appreciates good posture, well that's great.
Good posture obviously represents for her a measure of self awareness, physical health and self respect.

As someone in the top range of intelligence she would be bored with someone of much lesser intelligence in a long term relationship but might be content in the shorter term with someone who makes her feel good, special, attractive, intelligent, humourous etc.etc.

Most girls especially intelligent ones find the grubs, well grubby and the nerds, mostly awkward and nerdy.

The grubs grow up to be....slightly less grubby and the nerds slightly less awkward (some of them).

Don't be surprised if she falls for a guy several years older who is mature enough to not be grubby or awkward.

Please console her that the type of guys she is seeking do exist and in their millions (worldwide...still a small percentage but they are out there and WILL be attracted to her intelligence and self respect).

She may well be in for some lonely years but hitting uni and some like minds will tell a vastly different story.

We had some discussion about this. I told her that when she gets to college she can choose a narrower field of relations simply by choosing courses.

    Great post Spud!

She's very interested in the whole Nazi era or 'enlightened socialism' as she calls it. I'm sitting in the living room with my laptop and some of her books are scattered about in all directions. Its not WWII its the pre-war period that she reads about...the promotion of health food, eugenics, anti-smoking/alcohol propaganda, and positive body image campaigns.

She collects these old 1930s Nazi nudity and health magazines.

A Jewish guy would be someone who actually practises Judaism.

This seems unlikely...as she's not the biggest fan of the old testament.

Oh, so she's into the whole "racial hygiene" thing? Sounds like a real charmer. No wonder she's single.

    Nazism as "enlightened socialism?" Yikes.

Your starting to scare me, or maybe continuing to scare me. The only remotely positive thing I can say about nazisim, is that it is gone, except for a few skin head psychos.

She's interested in eugenics, but that doesnt mean 'racial hygiene' in her definition.

It was very popular in most western nations before WWII...America carried out a sterilization program right up until 1981.

Even Winston Churchill was supporting it while in cabinet:

Yes it did. It was a bad thing. America use to allow slavery. That also was a bad thing. If my daughter was interested in the the Nazis the way your daughter seems to be I would have a long talk with her about right and wrong.

How-come intelligent guys don't care if their girl friend is dumb as long as she has big things in front of her?
Sure her inane blather might become irritating at times but generally when she says something really dumb all the guys just laugh and buy her shiny trinkets.

Now, you can't tell me that guys are just like this? I know a lot of intelligent women who are partial to Himbo's.

Well she's 17 huh...a bit late for imposing my own ethical sentiments.

I told her she was wrong about this or that when she was 12...I cant do that now. Teenagers are VERY reactive to authority...regardless of gender.

Instead, I talk around issues...sometimes leading only with questions.
