Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. - H. L. Mencken

That quote isn't true in the sense it's not just the american public. but consumers which are people do not buy based on just logic or even from being informed or even if they are informed. people are not logical anyways.

there are other factors such as branding, image etc which are valid in it's own appeal but it just goes to show that people are not inclined to be rational.

When is enough data provided to make logical decisions about products? And with products been getting more complex for decades most people could not evaluate the data if they had it.

Psychologists don't want people to think. That might show how smart psychologists are not.
