Destroy the record?

How often do you destroy the record of what you've written?

I don't do it often, and mostly within a minute or two of posting; something has to go terribly wrong.

But the question occurred to me this morning as I was wandering through a random topic and noticed a poster discussing things from a perspective that was unfamiliar to my experience; it was 180° from the last time I'd encountered the poster.

So, on a whim, I called up our old exchange and found ... the record of that poster's part of the discussion was gone. It's kind of weird, a bunch of posts referring to a poster who no longer appears in the topic.

Which got me to thinking about how often that happens. I can say that one of the least fun things about moderating topics is when you have to track down suspect writing in multiple posts (e.g. original post and then subsequent quotes of that post). But I'm not accustomed to people just disappearing from topics.

Is this an ego thing? I mean, Aleister Crowley tried to destroy certain sets of his writings; I have one volume of his early poetry that he sought to destroy because he considered it juvenile, and his ego couldn't stand that sort of exposure--heaven help the Beast if folks found out he was human . . . .

Kind of like that Stallone porno, I guess.

But ... yeah ... how often do you wipe out portions of your posted writing at Sciforums, for whatever reasons?

Mmh, I do not normally destroy whatever I wrote, perhaps I delete a post once every two months, but normally only minutes after posting it.
Erasing posts that have been there for a long time is stupid, at least in my opinion.

only delete double posts or errors of that charater. Other then that i never delete posts, not even if they have errors or a wrong. My reasoning is that I see no reason to hide or cover my mistakes.

    Heck...

I don't think I've ever even looked at an old post...
Besides on a thread that was still "ongoing", I mean.

I guess I'll just have to live with it if any of it ever "comes back to haunt me", so to speak.
It'd be strangely flattering to think that anyone would find any of it memorable enough to track down.

That's a bizzarre comparison to visualize, By the way, Tiassa...
Aleister Crowley's poetry & Sly Stallone's skin flicks...? :bugeye:

I've never destroyed any of my posts except if it's a double post or an error. I'm not proud of every post I've contributed but hell, it's a forum. I can just start being a troll ang say "fuck it" and start posting redundant, incessant posts. Of course, I usually try to contribute.

I haven't looked at any of my old posts. Now that I think about it, i don't want to. I will when I've finished reading a good book, had a couple of drinks and am all mellowed out, then I will laugh ast my posts instead of being shameful.

Well ... y'know ... it's just one of those things. Both were embarrassed by the footprints they'd left, and both apparently tried to erase those tracks.

The funny thing about Crowley is that I think the underlying themes remain unchanged through his later work; he was just embarrassed about format and meter.

(The entirety of "Aceldama" was made available a while ago in PDF form. I can't find it online, so I've dropped a copy into a remote shared folder.)

You can tell Crowley is young; "Aceldama" is dated 1898, when he was 23. Of course, if Crowley had made a porn film, he probably wouldn't have gone back to remove it from circulation. For some reason, I think the Beast would have enjoyed making skin films. "The Beast and the Scarlet Woman" ... I mean, it sounds almost like a porno as it is. Come to think of it, "Aceldama" reads, in part, like a porno. I didn't even get to the part about wading through naked girls (stanza XXVIII). Of course ... that was Aubrey, and not Crowley.

Stallone? I think he finally just realized that nobody wants to see him f@cking.

And, as the evening's copy of Fahrenheit 9/11 just walked through the door, 'tis time for me to stop rambling.

I only delete a double post. I do not modify my posts unless there are typos or missing information. The only time I reread my posts is right after they're posted, to check for errors or missing things. I would not modify my post if someone else already wrote something after me.
