I order vitamins and a pre-workout supplement online, and in both containers, there are desiccant packets which are supposed to absorb moisture, within the container/bottle. Are these necessary to keep in the bottle for the duration of using the product? Do you keep them or throw them away?
Minimum reasonable action would be to keep them with the items they came with. The desiccant will continue to do its job for a good while after you open the bottle the first time. You can reactivate them by heating them in an oven. Dries them out and makes them absorbent again.
Thanks, guys. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I guess it’s not that big of a deal keeping it in the container but if it’s in a powder supplement (think superfood powder for smoothies) it is annoying to scoop around it.
I always keep them. You can also just lay them in sunlight on hot sunny day to "reactivate" them. If you have trouble with condensation/moisture in you car...throw a bunch of them in an old sock/pantyhose and use them to "dehumidify" you autos interior. Cuts down on ice forming on the inside of your windshield in the winter - lessens the need to use the defroster! Re-Use, Re-Purpose, Re-Cycle!!!
i eat some once (a granule or 2) the packet had broken open from poor sealing of the packet. how long does a container last ? i would not want them to be placed into a powder container. only pills and large tablets
I don't know about you, but since the sixties I've been tossing all my desiccant packets into the Aral Sea. What could go wrong? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I asked a pharmacist once if they still put cotton in pill bottles. He said he tries to avoid it. If I'd known you were going to start this discussion years later I would have asked him why.
The cotton is there to stop the pills from banging around and disintegrating during shipping. There's no real reason to keep it once the bottle has been bought - unless perhaps you plan to carry it around in a purse and don't want it rattling all the time.
do you throw away desiccated pancakes ... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Don't listen to him! A relative removed the tag on her pillow and less than forty years later she was dead! Take heed of this warning.

i have wondered if lining the bottom of your wardrobe with several kilos would prevent mold build up or simply create a collection point for water as it acted more like a condensation exchange point
Lol! I believe one can be arrested if it’s removed in the store before purchase! (That’s actually true so be careful out there)
