Apparently (I do not take part in Facebook) Facebook employs algorithms rather than human moderators to filter and process communication between members.

It seems that if a false story is put out there is no mechanism to indicate that the story is unreliable.

Is this creating a huge new gossip machine where people loose responsibility for the truthfulness of their statements and communications?

Is Trump both a victim and profiter of this process and is democracy (ie us politcally writ large) the big loser?

It seems like there is an economic imperative to dispense with expensive human labour across the board. Should there be limits to this and does the internet need to be peopled by humans in cases like the above so that gossip does not pass for news?

The stock market is another example that springs to mind.

This is the story that lead me to post : http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37946713
