Fact Vs Opinion

    Well, I don't think it's quite so drastic as that, is it. I mean, for example, it's a fact that World War II was fought ...that's a fact and there's plenty of evidence for it, and it's pretty well accepted that World War II was fought.

    However, what's not a fact is ....why. Why World War II was fought is opinion ...even if the historian can cite evidence, etc. For each historian, there's probably a different opinion as to "why" the war was fought ...or even how far back in history one wishes to look. Those are opinions.

    It's a fact that the USA invaded Iraq. But the "why" will be argued about until hell freezes over .....and the "why" is opinion.

    It's a fact that the Earth is warming ...we can measure it. Why it's warming up is opinion ...and everyone has their own opinions even if it's supported by some evidence, it's still opinion. And it's opinion as to whether it's a natural cycle, or whether it's a long-term situation.
