For some odd reason I find the piano part in Final Fantasy VI (yes, the old SNES game) to be rather poignant. I am a coniseur of much classical music, but for some reason I find this particular videogame to have one of the sadder songs on the earth. For something so minimal it carries so much weight.
Oh yes. They're on here at least twice. If the topic were "favorite depressing album" instead of "song," I'd certainly have put Evanescence up near the top of my list, alongside almost any album by Hank Williams, Sandy Denny, and the original Black Sabbath.
If were on video game songs, then I gotta go with VII and VIII theme songs. Aeris song is very depressing considering she got killed.
That whole game is depressing. It is a very engrossing experience and its almost sad that I was that obsessed with a bunch of blips on TV screen. Excellent game.
"Happy Phantom" by Tori Amos it's the saddest happy song I've ever heard, I love it. It really messes with your emotions, the contrast between the song's tone and the lyrics is extreme. Kinda like watching a murder to the tune of circus music.
All of the Sap EP by Alice in Chains, especially, "You've Got Me Wrong," and most all of American IV: The Man Comes Around and Achtung Baby. Oh, and all of Wish You Were Here. Also ... A Perfect Circle - "The Package" A Perfect Circle - "Diary of a Lovesong" Atmosphere - "Tears for the Sheep" Atmosphere - "If I Was Santa Claus" Eminem - "Rock Bottom" Guns n' Roses - "Civil War" Iced Earth - "Melancholy (Holy Martyr)" Iced Earth - "Watching Over Me" Metallica - "Orion" Metallica - "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" nine inch nails - "down in it" Tool - "Intolerance" Tool - "Sober" Tool - "Hooker with a Penis" U2 - "Peace on Earth"
Natalie Merchant: "Frozen Charlotte" *** The Tindersticks: "Marbles" *** New Order: "Morning Sun (True Faith)" *** The Smiths: "I know it's over" (but The Smiths had many depressing songs) *** Nick Cave: "Green Eyes" *** Björk: "Play Dead" *** Yes, Tori Amos just has the touch for depressing songs and bizzare effects. From Little Earthquakes, I'll add "Me and a gun" -- just the voice, no instruments, horrible, as if it happened right there, everytime you hear the song. This song is the most painfully depressing I know.
Debt, "Kom Susser Tod" might mean "Come, Sweet Death" in German or something else ... but that doesn't even look Latin.
Yeah, "Komm Süsser Tod" is german, and your translation is correct. More depressing songs: Rhapsody - Echos of Tragedy In Extremo - Unter dem Meer
StarOfEight, you also think that Civil War is depressing? I know a few people that disagree becuase the song is "too fast". I always tell them to pay attention to the lyrics. Here's some depressing songs, I know that I will most likely repeat some: Guns n' Roses- November Rain Estranged Collective Soul-World I know Yoko Kanno-Blue (It's on Cowboy Bebop's last episode, it's the closing theme) Sara Brightman-Eden Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven All of my love Radiohead takes the cake for having the most depressing songs. What's even better is that they always change thier sound, so it's also more unique. Here's my huge Radiohead list by album: Pablo Honey- Creep (obvious) The Bends- High and Dry Fake Plastic Trees Bulletproof... I wish I was Street Spirit (fade out) OK Computer- Subterranean Homesick Alien Exit Music (For A Film) Let Down Karma Police Lucky The Tourist Kid A- How to Disappear Completely Amnesiac- Pyramid Song Knives out I might be wrong hunting bears Hail to the thief- Sail to the moon When you hear the begining of Paranoid Android, it sounds like one of the most depressing song you've ever heard... then the song changes tempo, and you realize that the lyrics don't make sense. From "Hail to the thief" I'll add "Wolf at the door." Gawd, Rh just have the touch for depressing songs.
Not real depressing as such, but good company when you are: Everybody hurts - REM Behind blue eyes - Limp Bizkit Fragile - Sting Oh, and the Soundtrack for Red Violin... now that's depressing.
