Simple question: what kind of things do you put in a first aid kit?
Would you put different things in the kit depending on where its being used (examples: in a car, in your home, in the wilderness, etc). If so, what sorts of things?

Of course it depends upon where you are going to be needing your first aid kit as well. Outdoor camping would require others things, around the home other stuff as well. But this is a good kit for most things that may happen.

seriously though it depends more on your training than anything else. For instance mine has a steth and BP cuff because im trained to use both (and have to have the steth anyway

). I also intend to put a bag mask in there as well as OPA's if i can ever get them because if i need to resus someone i would rather use these than a shield especially if im somewhere i can get O2 (lots of places now have O2)

I also have hand sanitizer and LOTS of gloves in my kit because im a St Johns vollenter as well

Im not going to go through my whole kit but i will say i have the kit (or a similar one at least) at the botom of this page:
    http://www.stjohnact.com.au/ KS Personal Kits.html

The main thing i would add to cosmics post is that if your using it in situations where burns are likly a roll of gladwrap is a good idea because plasic wrap makes the best burn dressing (its actually what the ambulance service uses)

My mum and I just keep some antiseptics, scissors and various dressings in a bag in the car.

Should we be carrying anything else?

Seriously the best way to take a BP (and the only way if you want the diasolic) is using a steth. Heart and lung sounds are great but you really need to know what to lission for with that.

Oh i forgot to mention VENTILIN (salbutamol), pain meds (ibprofin and codine in my case) and asprin (for heart atacks), not to mention a thermomitor.

A friend of mine also has a SpO2 probe which i want to buy when i have a spare $50

And never forget a watch because you need it for resp rates and pulses

I always carry a bandaid with me, because I often scratch my arms/legs on concrete. But first aid kit is located in college usually, in a house I rent, in the job I go to (and again I used a bandaid there oncemore). =) But I saw this med-kit once and it had canned food in it...maybe I got it wrong, but I think there were sardines there =p

Although me thinks, Bon Jovi the real man would substitute for any med-kit in any serious life-threatening situation.
