    Here is my daydream -

John Kerry meets in secret with John McCain, behind closed doors with no one else present. Kerry offers McCain the vice-presidency, but with three additional provisions that could actually save our sorry asses:

    1. The administration will be run as a cooperative venture. It will be a Kerry-McCain administration, and the two men will wield equal power in the decision-making process.

    2. The sixteen cabinet positions will be filled by equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans to be chosen by the two men. The prime qualification for these positions will be the ability to work with others.

    3. In 2008 Kerry agrees to step aside and run as v.p. to presidential candidate McCain.

If they could pull this off, then all kinds of difficult political decisions could be made and enforced without suffering the kind of partisan damage that now has us paralyzed.

Kerry and McCain could then call in Dennis Hastert, Ted Stevens, Nancy Pelosi and Tom Daschle and tell them to cut the shit and start working for the American people for once.

They could then appear together at the State of the Union address and give the shortest speech in history:

"The State of the Union tonight is completely fucked up. We are leaving this chamber to get to work on fixing the thousand and one problems that threaten to wreck this fine country, and our message to Congress and the States is simple: anybody who feels the need to play political games with the future of the American people can go home right now. Good night, and may God have mercy on the United States of America."
