That is by no means certain.

    Even according to wikipedia:
Given the large range offered by meta-studies, papers published since 2010 have been relatively pessimistic. A 2010 Kuwait University study predicted production will peak in 2014.[6] A 2010 Oxford University study predicted that production will peak before 2015.[7] A 2014 validation of a significant 2004 study in the journal Energy proposed that it is likely that conventional oil production peaked, according to various definitions, between 2005 and 2011. Models which show a continued increase in oil production may be including both conventional and non-conventional oil.[8] A set of models published in a 2014 Ph.D. thesis predicted that a 2012 peak would be followed by a drop in oil prices, which in some scenarios could turn into a rapid rise in prices thereafter.[9]

Irrelevant. It peaked in the US in the 1970's, and isn't about to peak again.

Crude oil production peaked in 2005.

Yes, it was, since it can be done with zero energy. You end the trip with no energy saved. No energy out, a lot of energy in = zero efficiency.
At the end of the trip, all the energy has been used, and there is no motion. So again, WITH RESPECT TO THE PAYLOAD, at the end of the journey, it is zero percent efficient.

That does not mean it is useless. Plenty of things that are zero percent efficient are useful or fun. Roller coasters or shredders, for example.

Also if you define some subset of the transportation system (for example, chemical energy in vs. power to the wheels) you can define the efficiency of that part of the system.
