A reminder to all of our contestants, Haiku should follow the form of the first line consisting of five sylables, the second having seven, and the third should have five (5-7-5). Also points are docked if your Haiku is a sentence broken up into the 5-7-5 format, each line should be independent.

What IS a Haiku? I know the whole 5-7-5 thing, but I mean deeper than that? Is there a significance to teh 5-7-5? Were Haiku's intended to have a purpose? Does anyone know the history of Haiku? Did God create man? Or is man God's creator? Don't fuckin' ask me.
They're an ancient form of chinese poetry, and most often deal with broad topics of life and nature and the like. More than that I can't say.
