Wow. I microwaved a hard boiled egg that had been in the refridgerator. I started to eat it, took one bite. Then I took the second bite and the egg exploded in my mouth. It was really loud and blasted hot bits of egg everywhere. Egg was all over the room and up in my nose. The inside of my mouth was burned. I just sat there for a second, 'What the fuck?! I hope I'm ok." I know someone is going to say something like "Ha. I guess you really had egg on your face." It would've been really funny if someone else saw it.
SWEET experiment sweet....im going to go try it!!!!!!Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

you dont have to have it blow in your mouth you can just keep boiling it until it goes to ceiling... you can also cover that w something that can go off w a bang.. once i threw out some fried sunny-side-ups on the head of superintendent all the way from 6th floor. OH THAT MADE A BOOMMMMMMMMM! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Congradulations, you have discovered and proved that food does not stop cooking because it is taken out of the microwave and the power is now off. The microwave heats food and it takes a little while for the heat to distrubute through the food. Lots of microwavable foods are recommended to be left out for a certain amount of time after cooking so that it can finish. What you have found is that it takes a little time for the heat to pass through the egg. Heat causes expansion and that shell isn't a really good container to hold the expansion within.
Cool! I see a science experiment in my near future Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

To make it explode when you drop it in cold vinegar, silly! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! The other fun thing to do is add sugar to boiling hot coffee. Whee!
I microwaved it for about 30-45 seconds I suppose. It exploded when I bit into the yolk part. I'm not responsible if you injure yourself though.
This same thing just happened to me. I boiled my egg and took the shell off. I decided I didn't boil it long enough so I stuck it in the microwave. After taking out the egg I split it open to let the heat out, I then heard a loud pop like a champagne bottle! Egg was all over my hair, face, pants, floor! I never even knew this happens. I Googled it and found this thread. lolPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Yeah it just happened to me. Boiled egg was kept in refrigerator for a while and then microwaved. I took it out, poured some salt on it and tried to take a bite. And Bang! The egg was all over the place. Ruined my couch. I was amazed really, Although i have a swollen lip but enjoyed it. And its good to know i am not alone in this egg blasting crusade. There's info on the net on how to microwave an egg. You will hear them popping, and have to clean out you oven if you don't cover them. Remember too that the microwaves go on doing there thing for a bit after the power stops. So leave them a minute in the shutdown oven. If you're not fussy about the shape, you can put them in any old plastic container and add them to oatmeal or something.
