In our modern society of computers and science, has science become accepted as kewl?

Cause 20 years ago geek and cool were opposites.

    Your thoughts.....

Looking good and being a geek don't automatically exclude themselves

intelligence is an object of great envy to the stupid masses, we will always be excluded by the majority

    The mushroom speaks the truth!

Geekdom will always be shuned by the masses but we do wield greater respect than before.

Mmh, perhaps geeks have more power nowadays, after all, computers are ever present in our every day life and many jobs depend on them. If those computers are not working, you need a geek to fix it.

nah, cool and geek are not exactly synonyms. But who is to say that a geek cannot be cool. I am intelligent but i am still respected and a good friend of "others"

If you define a "geek" as someone who is very knowledgeable about computers &/or science, then why the f*@k can they not also be cool? If one's sexual successes are the measuring rod of coolness... a guy who can charm a girl, treat her to expensive evenings out on self-employed IT earnings, make intelligent and well-informed conversation, AND do her any dislegitimate online favour she desires, may well tend to score more than some willfully ignorant Fonz-a-like who thinks only about his image.

Not to mention that Internet addicts have access to any number of matchmaking sites..

From the female perspective, male geeks are cool if they look cool and act cool. They also will usually make a lot of $$$ so that makes them even more attractive in a way. I have always gone out with intelligent guys (I dumped the dumb ones right away) and they are cool to have a conversation with. I guess cool and computers can go together now.

Huuumm... welll... When I look around, I still see a lot of people thinking that being drunk or high is what is really cool. So... yeah.... if you have any statistics proving otherwise, that would be great. It would give me hope for this world....

    no-

the geek populace is changing. There are a greater number of self-respecting 'cool' geeks.

The geek look- horn rimmed glasses, cardigan, casual - is completely seperate from geek culture. Putting geekwear on may be stylish, but true geek comes from within.

When does one know -- I mean "know" -- that one is a geek? Thermometerorsomething? Sounds reeeealllly com-pli-CATE-ed.

One does not know directly. In fact most geeks are in constant denial and learn of their geekhood from people telling them that they are.

I know a number of geeks who are complete wiggers.
