he's great, got a poster of him on my wall...
purple haze is easily my fave...

i heard he played upside down, meaning the guitar he used was supposed to be for a right handed person, but he was left handed

of course while drunk sometime last year i vowed to learn all the chords for purple haze.. of course i should learn how to play a guitar first...

The kind of "songs" he wrote completely blew the pop world out of the orbit of the Tin Pan Alley tradition. Not surprising, considering his enthusiasm for Dylan. Before Hendrix, only a very few songs like the Byrds "Eight Miles High" had even hinted at the kind of complex compositions rock musicians would soon offer.

The best Hendrix Album ever? Nine To The Universe.

    Peace.

Purple haze - definitely the best song ever! Well to me anyways. Even thought I wasnt born yet when he was alive, I think his music will live on forever

I dunno 'bout that. "The Wind Cries Mary" is outstanding:

After all the Jacks are in their boxes
And all the clowns have gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
    Footprints dressed in red
    And the wind cries, Mary

    A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterday’s life
    Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
    And the wind whispers, Mary

Traffic lights they all turn blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags on downstream
Coz the life that lives is dead
    And the wind screams, Mary

    Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past
And with its crutch its old age and its wisdom
It whispers no this will be the last
    And the wind cries, Mary

    Peace.

You totally read my mind. Right after I posted my last post, I thought, "Wait, The wind cries Mary is just as good as Purple Haze" And I never knew ALL the words. Thanx!!!

What about the Catfish Blues, Red House, Voodoo Chile (slightly return and the long version), Little Wing and so on and so on and so on.

Where you think my sig comes from? The man was a genius. He is far out my favorite guitar player. He was the first who really got Magic out of his guitar.

Hendrix is the man. Coincidentally he died 5 years to the day before I was born.

Personally I like the Band of Gypsys stuff the best. You could tell the Miles Davis influence. To bad they never ended up actually performing together that would have been awesome. (Banshee I think the blues stuff is awesome too)

Picking a single song is quite unnecessary and doesn't do him justice, I just wish he had stuck around to write and preform a few more ...

    Yeah...The Band Of Gypsies...

That I have on c.d.. He made too much good Music to mention. It is all wonderful. There you are right. It were just the first songs that came to my mind when I saw the thread. I love to see him play. Have seen him a lot on video's which are available now-a-days. Wonderful, in stereo and look at him play...
