If we look at the history of the universe as an ongoing, unfolding developmental complex, putting our own "sub-history" into the context of the physical extrapolation, that we are not too close to being at the end of the evolution spectrum for the resources available on Earth, and on other planets in the solar system that is there as the essential "system state for continuation."
Right now, ultimate thinking is the synonym for how we are existencively. It could become the definition of our time thousands or hundreds of thousands of years from now, etc.
Every theory directly or indirectly proclaims to be the finality of whatever area it is addressing- the semi-conscious fallacy? Maybe.
Maybe we can look up and live with our intermediateness without shame, and or with rested normality and "pragma" even, about nowadays intermediate philosophies and sciences that we make to get to whatever the next stage is for the moment.
