Left to itself a cold will dissipate in a week. However, with appropriate corrective medicines, herbal or prescription, you can get rid of it in seven days.

With my gin-garlic-salt water combo I cut it down to 3 days...

Several of the cold advising websites warn against over the counter drugs because they say, they just puch the infection higher up in the head and such...

Do you just enjoy ruining jokes, or is it a hidden compulsion to post?

I don't necesserily enjoy old and overused jokes, on the other hand my post actually had a point, namely that my system of coldfigthing DID cut down on the recuperation time...

oh, I like that one. We do the salt-water thing, but I never thought to add an aspirin to it.
    Thanks!

I also add a menthol cough drop to hot tea and drink it.

As an oxidizing agent to keep your teeth whiter.
They also put fluorine in toothpaste, which is poisonous, and alcohol in cough syrup, which is also poisonous.

It's all about levels of consumption

I was just wondering about its effects on a virus.

Red bull effects on a virus? Probably none. Viruses are non-metabolic, so I can't see any sort of drink affecting them in any way.
