how would you go about transferring human awareness from the human body into an alternative form?

this is science fiction now, because it is not real now, but it wont be science fiction once I implement it.

OK, so up to this point, there's been no indication of a timeline in your idea.
It's easy to suggest nano robots can do magical things if you don't have an upper limit on years passed. A century might do it.

But now you're suggesting that we're going to have magical nano robots - and ones sophisticated enough to make a copy of a specific person's identity - within the span of your career.

Which is great, but you'd better get busy. You've got your work cut out for you.

Interesting claim. What would you be without your cells?
If you have two identical things that you cannot tell apart by any means, they are by definition identical - with the same characteristics, including awareness.

Let's take the transporter case. A Star Trek type transporter (i.e. one that destroys you and reassembles you at the other end) malfunctions and creates two identical copies of you. Which has "your" awareness?

I would be my awareness of things without my cells.

the very fact that all of my cells are replaced every 10 years but I remain indicates that I'm not them.

but replicating the biological brain exactly would only produce your awareness if your awareness was indeed produced by your brain.
it would work only if that assumption is true.

and the one that has my awareness is whichever one my awareness exists inside of.
if awareness is a brain function, and like brains produce like awareness's, then both of those clones of me have my awareness.

I don't believe awareness to be a brain function.

I have already started, not physically, I don't have the resources, but I have started planning these "magical" robots.

and it doesn't need to be in the span of my career, just my life.

and you ask how these robots can perform functions, I plan to have them observe and subsequently replicate these functions also.

If you could transfer consciousness, would it be a copy, or cut and paste?

So they can observe and be smart enough to know what they're seeing and replicate it.

IOW, these nano bots are - individually - at least as smart as a human - an educated human, no less. And still smaller than a protein.

They're getting more magical all the time.

...if it was a cut and paste, the transferee must drop dead.

this observation property is not required, but it is blanket solution, rather than a human having to observe and deliberately implement these functions individually, the nano robots would do it instead.

that's basically the whole reason I want to use them at all, as a blanket solution.

but as I said, any exceptions, anything they can't deal with, I will deal with it myself.

No, there would be no you.
Your cells support your consciousness. They are the hardware your mind "runs" on.

Consider a computer. Without a computer, a flight simulator program is just code on paper. It doesn't do anything. Nor would you.
    Exactly.
