Following on from 'do you work in a lab', it struck me that many of us use very expensive lab equipment for mundane purposes. For example, I have a 2" square of very exotic metal alloy (about $500 worth) holding down the wing-mirror on my truck.

Anyone else have an example of the sublime being used for the ridiculous??

    Cheers,

    ron.

er, a friend of mine used paintball marker ("gun") parts to make his homemade bong/waterpipe...

Is that sort of what you meant?

I've another friend who uses a large aquarium tank as a garden on his balcony..

I once used a towel for drying myself, does that count??

You should ask Captain_Crunch, the last I heard he was planning on building a rocket from junk scraps

No - that's what the manufacturer intended. Now, had you used it for drying off the autoclaved chicken....

    Cheers,

    Ron.

    Stuff done at work:
    Pliers for a hammer
    Pliers for a pry bar
An awl for a pry bar
A hammer for a pry bar

    Think of more later.

Something else we did was cut the bottom two inches off of 30mm cases, polish them up, and put in shot glasses. I always thought it would be fun to hang a string of .50 cal dummies like a garland.

I made an instrument out of zippers and plywood. The acoustics arent worked out yet. It sounds good, though.

Slacker....just hook it up to a Vox amplifier and you'll be good to go.

Am currently designing world's most annoying card! I took all the musical mechanisms from old birthday and christmas cards, and I'll put them all together into one freakishly interactive card. Upon opening, the reciever will be serenaded with the voices of 10 000 yowling cats, and such cherished melodies like "Silent Night", only in musical saws format.

    Pliers as hammer.
    Pliers as throwing darts.
    Rotating fan as water sprayer.
    Broom stick as sword.
    Guitar as sword.
    Coat hanger as guitar.

    And more probably.
