There is some good news here too. The bartender tried to subdue the attacker and was shot in the process. Not everyone is a racist thug. Based on initial reports this is a hate crime and they need to throw the book at the attacker. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. The how is not as complicated as would seem. Two fatal flaws built into the nation's foundation, exploited at every opportunity by the least scrupulous. The checks and balances were imposed on an already tipped scale: the moderating, unifying influences were always weak compared to the destructive, divisive influences. This is why positive reforms and institutions only ever came out of upheaval, breakdown, crisis. There is not much you can do, but hold on. Preserve and protect what you can, while the inevitable cycle plays out. There is a crisis - the grandmother of all crises - on its way, that might provide the opportunity for a period of sweeping reform - if we survive. The crucial question is: will the global economy collapse before civilization does?
This is shameful. Utterly shameful. The very worst of humanity. I really wish there was a Hell for this guy deserves to go there. Oh, if only there was a quick death penalty.
