A woman and her dog were walking along a trail in a remote area of far northwestern California (Trinity county) when a mountain lion attacked the woman. Her 50 pound dog immediately came to her aid and engaged the cat which weighed twice as much as the dog in a life-or-death struggle. Another woman driving by saw the commotion and came to their aid. The mountain lion had the dog by the neck which is how they kill prey, and the two women started beating on the cat with sticks which seemed to have little effect, then the second woman hit it the cat directly in the face with pepper-spray which drove it off. (Luckily capsaicin seemed to work on the mountain lion.)

The hero-dog was seriously hurt, with a fractured jaw and serious bites, was in iffy condition at the vet for a couple of days but is now expected to recover. They really will give up their lives to protect you...

    OK
    I never saw the cat
    however
something leapt a 6 ft. fence and got in to the chickens and ate several.
We found one big pawprint and decided puma/cougar/mountain lion
and: The rangers claimed that there were no pumas in Iowa
    ok
    maybe
    maybe not
Young males are known to roam
    and
    a few years later
a female with cubs was spotted about 20 miles from here.
    so
more of a maybe and less of a maybe not?

    damned chicken eaters
