Or perhaps just use it in fewer jokes.

There are tens of thousands, and entire industries that have not been addressed
It's serious here, regardless of what you claim it to be. It wasn't "made" serious, by anyone - it was serious from the first word on. And "appreciating the humor" is something almosteverybody raised in the culture does automatically - it's just that their "appreciation" is differently informed, often by having been targets of such humor.

Thing is: Posting that here as a joke does not make it a joke as a post. It's like posting from one's private definitions of "assault", "liberal", "socialist", "arrogant", "American", and so forth. The audience has to be right - share in your assumptions.
The audience that would take that as a joke in the first place is not here - go find it, if you can't resist the urge to play to it. Suggestion: use search criteria such as "how to light farts", "where can I buy Tennite", and "mail order brides".
How such things appear to someone who posts "jokes" like that is not much of a concern, unless counting a narrow margin of votes or under attack by a klan of them. It reinforces the stereotype of the clueless arrested development characteristic of such folk, but so what?

More normal than odd. Why would he be worried about the police? They hadn't been a problem in his sex life so far.

It didn't pass on the one and only. Not much hope for the future.

So, the women were not the problem?

But there was no mention of "rape."

    If you insist.

I want to believe this site is a firm supporter of diversity.

    Okay, i will move on.

By all indications it is. However, you can't support diversity by supporting intolerance - and trivializing rape is a pretty strong move towards intolerance.

Karl Popper said it well. "If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.”

(Note that I am not saying you are intolerant; I have a feeling you just posted that joke without thinking about it too much. No problem - I've done thoughtless things too. As Wegs said, just take that as feedback and move on.)

And if I have faith that you can judge for yourself, regardless of what might be said by myself or others, what greater tolerance might be obtained? Anyways, they haven't removed the joke from the site, so I'm appreciative.

That's no excuse, in his case or any similar.

Posting a joke like that in at thread like this without "thinking about it" is a field mark. Having made many dozens of posts like that over years and threads defines the poster. If he had the ability to take the feedback and "move on", he would have moved on - whatever that means (change? pay attention?), long ago. Years.

Popper is right - there is no substitute for sound judgment based on particular circumstances, no hardline rule that will protect the tolerant and their tolerance. The main reason Bowser's crowd hasn't buddied up and destroyed the tolerance and the forum is that it remains - via moderation - outnumbered here.

We draw a line at misogyny. Misogynists are not welcome here. Just so you know.

They have now. Clearly, a gentle message was not sufficient to get through to you.

Keep your sexism to yourself when you're posting here. Clear?

    Misogynists! I see no misogynists.

Sexism. Hmm. I am a sexist, but not in a bad way. I accept both male and female sexes. No discrimination, I promise.

    Perhaps consult a mirror?

No. You're in a crowd, and typical enough to identify it. Another term might be "mob".

Perhaps a dictionary would be better?

"a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women."

    I'm none of that. You?

I don't think you even realise how your sexism could be bad. You seem completely unable to put yourself in a woman's shoes and look at your attitudes and behaviour from her point of view.

It's quite likely that women discuss your sexist attitudes behind your back and you're not even aware they are doing it.

A guy who thinks rape jokes are funny would qualify.

Okay. I didn't see that in the definition, but okay.

My sexist attitude is that men and women are different by nature. It's human nature. Each brings their own qualities to the table. If you disagree with that assessment, please argue your position.

They wouldn't have much to talk about.

sexism (n.) Discriminatory or abusive attitudes towards members of the opposite sex.

How old are you? If you're not aware of what sexism is by now, please correct your education.

    You really are clueless.

This has been a long question at Sciforums, and there are reasons the answer seems as it does.

These generally aren't the posts people report. And there are reasons for that, too. Nor is this really a "science forum", but that just evades the point.

There was some public dispute about policy, in January, when I reminded↗ nobody says we have to keep them around if they're utterly full of shite; the answer↗ was, "Yeah, I do, and I've explained why, many times, at length".

And it's true, he has explained why, many times. That it does not make any real sense, to me, is beside the point; I've lost this policy argument many times. While it is encouraging to see James R↗ expressing that, "We draw a line at misogyny", and, "Misogynists are not welcome here", that's actually news to me.

Because the reason people generally don't report certain posts is the long expectation of futility.

If you can change definitions, so can I.

Not at all. I don't treat women with any less respect than I would another man. What's there to talk about?
