    Opinion:

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was declared in 1948 as a result of the many millions who sacrificed their lives fighting tyranny. It was what our soldiers died for ultimately sacrificing their own lives so that the world could learn from it's mistakes.

The USA of course signed the UDHR and so did many other nations however many did not due to their inherent cultural and religious beliefs.

To say that the UDHR and Muslim values are incompatible would be generally correct IMO.

However those that did sign the UDHR decided to engage commercially with nations that by default of not signing up to the UDHR were demonstrating that they posed a threat to contemporary human rights. One of those rights is equality under the law. ( including the ability to vote in a democracy )

So now the world has to deal with the outcome of it's own desire to engage commercially with organizations that hold no allegiance to human rights thus propping up corrupt regimes.

To engage and secure a trading arrangements with nations that wants your head on a pole and to enslave your women due to it's medieval religious ideology is absurd, but alas that is what the world has been doing.

It often amazes me that a nation is prepared support a nation (due to it's addiction to growth) that can not respect human rights as it is those very human rights that facilitate any integrity of that support and those very same human rights that will eventually be ignored by those nations.

Integrity does not come cheap I guess...

As an aside I believe that every person on this planet should be a signature to the UDHR before they receive the benefit of those rights.

This includes the recent influx of refugees to the West and all should be offered refuge only if they are prepared to adhere to those rights.
It should be a precondition to refuge or asylum regardless of religious ideology etc..

    Especially article 18:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."

I also believe that The UDHR should be formally taught and practiced in all schools as a priority so that upon entering high school a child is well versed in how to co-exist with his neighbor.

A newly launched petition to the UN and Amnesty International can be found here:
